Chapter 631
Suddenly, someone burst into the room.
Seeing Nina lying motionless on the bed, Nash’s face was full of tension and urgency. He ran over and immediately took Nina into his arms. At that moment, Nina was too stunned to react.
Overwhelmed with worry, Nash had not noticed that Nina was only undergoing a check-up. He held her tightly and whispered, “I’m sorry…”
Those simple words carried a multitude of emotions. Nina, pressed against his chest, was a bit shocked but still managed to push against him slightly. “What are you doing?” Nash’s eyes were red, and as he looked at Nina, he seemed a bit disoriented. Nina was startled to see his unshaven face. He looked so different from the Nash she knew.
“Are you… okay?” Nash’s eyes examined her, relieved to see she was not gravely ill. He then realized that he had overreacted.
“I’m… fine,” Nina replied in a calm tone, lowering her eyes. “I’m just having some tests done.”
Nash took another look around, realizing they were indeed in a testing area. He stood up and said, “Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Nina responded.
Nash waited outside but his eyes were still glued to Nina as she continued her check-up. He was deeply worried about her. Watching her endure such pain hurt him too. He knew he had to wait, but soon he would have the antidote.
“As expected, it’s clear that you and Nina haven’t reached the point of no return,” Yvonne said, seeing Nash’s frantic concern for Nina. She could tell he still loved her.
Nash turned to Yvonne, masking his emotions. “How did you notice?”
“The way you two divorced so suddenly, Nina must have sensed something. What’s really going on with her?” Yvonne asked, worried.
Nash replied, “She’ll be fine. We will find a cure for the poison.”
“Poison? Is this Miranda’s doing?” Yvonne immediately suspected. “Is she using Nina to threaten you?”
“It’s a long story. Miranda might not even have the antidote. Getting close to her is the only chance we have,” Nash explained.
The poison was Pharaoh’s creation, and while Miranda might have access to the poison, the antidote was not guaranteed. But Miranda was a key to unlocking this situation. Yvonne was shocked by the complexity of the situation.
Just then, Nina finished her tests and came out. She was surprised to see Yvonne there. “Yvonne?”
Yvonne smiled. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming to the hospital? I was worried sick. Is the baby okay?”
Nina glanced at Yvonne, then at Nash. “I haven’t received the results yet.”
“I’ll leave you two to talk. I need to buy something,” Yvonne said.
“Okay.”
Nash and Nina faced each other. Nina, looking frail and pregnant, and Nash, with his unkempt beard, looked more mature.
He gazed at Nina. “Even if we’re no longer married, we can still be friends, right?”
Nina felt compelled to respond. “Right, we can still be friends.”
“I’ll wait with you for the results,” Nash offered.
“Okay.”
Their conversation was dry and awkward.
Nina walked ahead, with Nash following closely behind. Watching her, he noticed the strain of pregnancy making her steps a bit labored.
He wanted to reach out and support her, but as his hand hovered in the air, he forced himself to hold back. His hand clenched into a fist before he straightened it and let it fall back to his side. While waiting, Nash’s phone rang. Nina glanced at the screen and saw Miranda’s name.
Nash showed no intention of answering.
The phone kept ringing, and Nina said, “You should answer it. If she can’t reach you, she’ll just keep calling.”
