Chapter 649

“Then go see him,” Penelope suggested, “not for him, but for yourself. Knowing he’s safe will give you peace of mind.”
—
Meanwhile, Miranda had not slept all night, worrying about Nash’s safety. She had called Seth for reassurance, but he insisted there was no danger. Still, her instincts would not let her rest.
Early in the morning, exhausted and anxious, she stayed alert to every sound, hoping it was Nash returning. But there was no news of him.
Miranda was so preoccupied with Nash’s safety that she barely cared about the ratings of ‘Demon Bone’. Yesterday’s ratings were good, and she knew the ratings of ‘Glory’ had not met expectations and might even decline. This reassured her that she was finally winning against Nina, both in fame and love.
Just as she was feeling a sense of accomplishment, she heard a noise at the door. Thinking it was Nash, she eagerly ran to open it.
“Nash-” she started, but it was only her assistant with breakfast.
The excitement faded from Miranda’s face. “Just put it down,” she said.
As the assistant set up breakfast, she chatted, “Have you seen today’s trending topics? ‘Glory’ seems to be picking up!”
Miranda scoffed, “So what if it’s picking up? Everyone buys trending spots at the start for exposure. It’s just a flash in the pan.”
She continued mockingly, “Nina is still too naive. She thinks investing in a drama will make her successful, but she’ll end up losing everything. ‘Glory’ started with a whimper and will end in failure. ‘Demon Bone’ is already way ahead. I’ve seen the discussions online, and I’m sure we’ll win an award this year.”
The assistant, sensing Miranda’s confidence, did not argue but added, “But today’s ratings for ‘Glory’ have increased a lot. It’s now the top on the platform.”
“What?” Miranda couldn’t believe it. “Wasn’t it struggling yesterday?”
The assistant explained, “Their initial marketing was weak, so fewer people watched it. But those who did seem to really like it. That’s why it’s gaining traction now.”
Miranda’s turned grim, thinking her assistant must be joking. She quickly checked the trends herself and saw that the popularity of ‘Glory’ had skyrocketed. In just twenty-four hours, its popularity had multiplied several times and was continuing to climb.
This made her uneasy, but she tried to reassure herself, “What’s an online drama compared to us? Our ratings are still ahead. ‘Glory’ can’t possibly compete with ‘Demon Bone’! Their niche topic won’t cause much of a stir.”
She reminded herself that in recent years, fantasy dramas had consistently performed well. ‘Demon Bone’ was based on a popular series, and its viewership was high from the start, even if the growth was slow. A high starting point meant that slower growth was expected. “Glory’ will never reach our level,” she thought firmly.
“I agree,” the assistant said. “This little drama can’t compete with ‘Demon Bone’. They’re desperate for money, even selling merchandise. How pathetic!” Hearing this, Miranda checked and saw that the merchandise of ‘Glory’ was selling well, with only pre-orders left.
“Do we have merchandise?” Miranda asked urgently. “We need to release ours too!”
If ‘Glory’ had something, she wanted it too. She had scheduled ‘Demon Bone’ to premiere on the same day to steal their ratings and ensure their failure. Nina’s all-in investment in this drama was supposed to bankrupt her, not succeed.
Miranda wanted to see her lose it all, to leave her with nothing.
She could not let them succeed!
“I’ll get on it,” the assistant said, rushing to make calls.
