Chapter 694

If it were the old him, he might have been this selfish. After all, he did not want Nina to have anyone else in her heart.
But Wilfred was different. Wilfred’s dedication to Nina was selfless, making it impossible for anyone to harden their heart against him.
Wilfred looked back at Nash. “You don’t want her to be sad, right? If she remembers, it will break her heart.”
Nash pressed his lips together and changed the subject. “Do you have any family? Would you like me to help you find them?”
Wilfred and Scarlett had grown up in the organization, never knowing where home was. Nash wondered if Wilfred missed having a family.
“No need,” Wilfred replied without hesitation. “Wherever I am, that’s home.”
With that, Wilfred stood up, hands in his pockets, and said, “Don’t rely on others for the cure. I’ll find a way. Just take good care of Nina. However, there is something strange…” “What is it?” Nash asked.
“Pharaoh’s poison is potent, but it hasn’t fully invaded Nina’s body. Her baby is healthy. Even with my blood, the baby should have been affected, but it’s not. It’s like Nina’s body has developed an antibody to protect the baby.”
Nash fell into deep thought. There were many mysteries in Nina’s past yet to be solved.
“Did Nina ever get used as an experiment when you knew her?” Nash speculated, thinking she might have been experimented on like Wilfred.
“When I knew she existed, she was different from me and Scarlett. She was the protected one and had some freedom. I don’t think she was used as a test subject,” Wilfred speculated. “But I’m not sure.” He smiled faintly. “Can you guarantee there’s any humanity in that organization? It’s just my guess unless she’s very special.”
“What if she is special?” Nash asked again.
Wilfred had considered that possibility but found it unlikely. However, Nina was the only one who had escaped unscathed and had lost her memory of it all.
It was too coincidental, making him wonder.
“As long as Nina is okay, that’s what matters,” Wilfred said. “I need to get back to the lab.”
“Alright.”
Nash had a bold theory he wanted to confirm.
—
James and Felix arrived where Scarlett was.
James had a task, but Felix was venting. “Why did you rush to do that? You let Ma’am drink it, and then she had a relapse. If you had waited, she might not have suffered. What if it was poison? You could have killed her!”
James was getting annoyed. “How was I supposed to know it was a trial drug? You’re acting like you knew everything beforehand. What would you have done? You would’ve run even faster!”
Felix countered, “I’m not like you.”
“You’re just a hindsight expert!” James shot back. “”Always having perfect advice after everything’s happened. Even Captain didn’t blame me, and here you are, acting up. You’re such an idiot!” “You’re the idiot!” Felix snapped back.
“You’re the idiot!”
“You’re the idiot!”
They repeated this, almost coming to blows.
Their loud argument reached Scarlett in her hospital room. Hearing that the antidote was a trial drug and not effective, her face changed.
She got out of bed despite her injuries, using a crutch to hobble to the door. She saw them bickering like dogs.
“Are you done yet?” Scarlett scolded. “What did you say? Nina’s poison isn’t cured?”
James looked at her with more irritation. “You’re a prisoner. Why are you questioning me?”
“Big goof, I’m advising you to speak properly!” Scarlett snapped back.
“Stop calling me names,” James retorted. “Or I’ll-”
“You’ll what?” Scarlett stepped closer, standing tall despite her injuries. “Hit me? Go ahead, try it!”
James pressed his lips together, hesitating.
He could not hit a woman.
