Freya had not seen any signs that Micah was interested in anyone else either. She bit her lip, her heart aching. “You’re not dating anyone. Is it because of your responsibilities?” Otherwise, how could she explain why there was not even a hint of a woman around Micah?

She desperately wanted Micah to give her a chance, her voice hoarse with emotion. “Why can’t you just give me a chance? I’m not that terrible, Micah…”
“Enough,” Micah said flatly, with a hint that he was ready to leave. “Think about what you really want from me and let me know.”
Freya could not let him walk away, not now. She quickly called out, “I’ve thought about it. If you won’t agree to anything else, then just be my boyfriend for one month. Is that too much to ask?”
It was a ridiculous request, she knew that. It sounded desperate and contrived. But it was the only chance she had to be close to him.
Her eyes were full of hope as she looked at Micah, waiting for his response. But before he could speak, she added, “Just this one small request. Can’t you do that? After a month, I won’t bother you again. If I go back on my word, you can kill me.”
Freya was pulling out all the stops to make Micah agree, her sincerity shining through. But to Micah, it was nothing more than a nuisance. “If I kill you, won’t I be the one taking the blame?”
“Then I’ll take my own life!” Freya said urgently, even looking around for something to cut herself with, desperate to prove she meant it.
Seeing her frantic actions, Micah was suddenly reminded of Nina and Nash. The two of them had made it clear that no matter what, they would stay together, even if it meant facing death. Freya was the same. She was willing to sacrifice her life for him.
After a long pause, Micah finally spoke, his voice low. “Do you really like me that much? So much that you’re willing to die for me?” Freya did not hesitate, nodding vigorously. “Yes, I’d die for you. Or do you think that taking that bullet for you was just an accident?”
