Chapter 1100

“She’s not our nanny. She’s my mom!” Orion shouted angrily, pounding on Madison’s leg.
In response, Madison kicked him away, sending him to the ground. He landed on his backside, and looked up at her with hurt and confusion in his eyes.
The incident happened so quickly that by the time Nina realized what had occurred, Orion was already on the ground. She hurried to scoop him up, holding him tightly. When she stood up again, she fixed Madison with a cold stare.
Madison took two steps back, her voice trembling. “What are you going to do? I didn’t kick him that hard! He fell on his own. It’s not my fault!”
“So, you’re Madison, huh? I’ll remember that. If my son has any issues because of this, my lawyer will be in touch. And by the way, isn’t your husband a big-time manager at some company? I’m sure you can afford the medical bills, right? Just make sure not to dodge the responsibility.”
Nina hadn’t intended to make a big deal out of this, but kicking her son was crossing the line. If she let this slide, she wouldn’t be Nina. Her tone was so icy that not only did Madison shrink back in fear, but even the nearby parents took a few steps away. Nina didn’t care. She carried Orion back to the resting area.
The competition continued, with kids celebrating their victories and others throwing tantrums over their losses. As the day moved closer to noon, Nina received a message from Nash, informing her that something urgent had come up at the company and he had to head back to the office. Rather than call him to vent her frustration, Nina calmly contacted a restaurant to arrange lunch for everyone. There was no need for her to cook personally.
If the teacher had entrusted Madison with organizing lunch, it meant they weren’t too concerned about how it turned out, or maybe they were just trying to keep everyone happy. In that case, she might as well make sure everyone enjoyed their meal. The loudspeaker announced that the morning competitions were over, and everyone returned to their resting areas. While parents from other classes were busy cooking, the parents from Orion’s class were simply taking photos and chatting on video calls, completely in “waiting to be served” mode.
“Are you really Orion’s mom?” one of the parents approached Nina, having been sent by the others to ask.
Nina nodded. “Do I not look like Orion’s mom?”
“It’s not that. It’s just that we’ve never seen you drop off or pick up Orion since the school year started. And you’re not in our moms’ group chat either, so when we saw you, our first thought was that you might be the nanny. I hope you don’t take offense.” “Not at all. I guess I have a down-to-earth look,” Nina said with a smile. “But is there something you needed to ask me?”
The parent looked a bit embarrassed, hesitating before quietly asking, “I didn’t want to ask, but everyone’s been getting anxious, and to be honest, I’m getting a bit worried too. The kids must be hungry by now. So, I was just wondering when you’re going to start cooking. It doesn’t matter what you make. No one expects a full-on royal feast or anything.”
It was clear that hunger was the real issue.
Nina checked the time and agreed that it was about time to serve lunch. She made a quick call, and the voice on the other end answered immediately. “Ma’am, we’re almost there. I can see the school gate. Please give us a moment, and we’ll make sure lunch is ready on time.” “That’s great. Just be careful not to hit any kids when you come in,” Nina said before hanging up. She smiled at the parent. “Please be patient. Lunch will be ready very soon.”
The parent glanced nervously at the temporary kitchen setup in the distance, then forced a smile in return.
A few minutes later, a catering van slowly made its way onto the school grounds, parking by the field. A team of chefs stepped out, each holding a tray of food.
