Chapter 1107

“You… I don’t know them! I was just passing by!” Madison desperately tried to distance herself from the situation.
But Nina had already called the police when she first noticed the men following her. The men’s statements were enough evidence, and the police didn’t listen to Madison’s excuses. They escorted her straight to the police car. “Mrs. York, are you alright?” Officer Lee asked as he approached. Madison froze when she heard the name Mrs. York and looked at Nina in shock.
“You’re Nash York’s wife?” she gasped in disbelief.
Nina smiled. “Doesn’t it look like it?”
Madison was on the verge of tears. If she had known who she was dealing with, she never would have caused so much trouble. Nina was the wife of the president of York Corporation, while she was just a small-time nobody. With Madison out of the way, Nina’s mood improved even more. She even ordered a large cake, and when Nash asked about it, she simply said she felt like eating cake.
Nash didn’t call her out on it. He played along with her act, though the police had already informed him about everything. As for how Madison and her accomplices would be dealt with, that was a matter for the law.
After dinner, Nina sliced up some fruit and brought it to Nash’s study. She immediately noticed a contract with Mr. Zook’s name on it and asked in surprise, “Weren’t you not going to work with Mr. Zook? What made you change your mind?” “Eugene mentioned that a batch of herbs Mr. Zook had swapped out is still unaccounted for. He suggested I reconnect with Mr. Zook to investigate,” Nash explained.
He then handed her the documents and continued, “I’ve been thinking. The timing is suspiciously close to when your father and his group were ambushed. If I remember correctly, their attackers suddenly had more reinforcements. I’m guessing…” “You think that batch of herbs might have been sold to those attackers,” Nina finished his thought, her eyes widening in shock.
If that were true, Mr. Zook would have to face the consequences.
“Have you mentioned this to my father?” she asked, concerned.
Nina didn’t want to inform her father too early. Knowing Pharaoh’s temper, he would probably go after Mr. Zook without hesitation, possibly resorting to extreme measures. She wanted to get all the facts first to avoid any loose ends. Nash smiled. “I know you’re worried. Don’t worry, I won’t say a word until we have more information.”
“Thank you for thinking of me,” Nina said, hugging him from behind. “I know you’re exhausted after everything we’ve been through. You’ve always put me first, even when you’re tired. I really appreciate that.”
“We’re husband and wife. There’s no need for formalities between us,” Nash replied, pulling her onto his lap.
Then, a frown crossed his face as he remembered something. “Tomorrow, I need you to pick up Orion from school. The nanny said that when she picked him up today, a strange woman was talking to him. She left as soon as she saw the nanny.” This immediately raised Nina’s alarm, and she nodded in agreement.
Orion was her son too, and she couldn’t ignore something like this. Whoever that woman was, she wouldn’t show mercy this time.
The next day, Nina arrived at the school early to wait for Orion to be dismissed. Half an hour before school let out, a black car, just as the nanny had described, parked across the street.
A well-dressed woman stepped out of the car and headed straight for the school gate. She seemed to know the security guard well, and he even brought her some tea.
Nina had asked Orion about the woman earlier, and he said she had only spoken to him and hadn’t interacted with any other children. It was also the first time he had seen her. This only deepened Nina’s curiosity.
The school bell rang, and the sound of children singing filled the air. Soon after, a line of young students, led by their teacher, began making their way toward the gate.
