The boy’s eyes held a deep sadness as he spoke.

“Why did you come here, to such a war-torn place?” the boy asked.
In this place, apart from civilians living in the midst of war, there were peacekeeping forces, Pharaoh’s subordinates, and the local army. But the local army was too weak to protect anyone.
Nina hesitated. “I came to find someone. I was with friends, but we got separated. What’s your name?” She paused before adding, ” Is this the Yaren territory?”

Nina followed, helping him gather more. When they had enough, he lit a fire. As the flames roared, he finally spoke, “This is the northern part of the Yaren territory.”
The boy didn’t intend to reveal his name.
Nina understood that he still harbored caution toward her, but she admired his determination. He even thought to cremate and bury the dead.
She tried to connect with him, “I got separated from my friends. I can’t understand the Yaren language. Can you stay with me and be my translator?”
