Upon hearing that, Ivy’s expression changed dramatically. “What nonsense are you spouting now?” She looked around at her followers, her panic turning into rage. “Someone, gag her! Shut her up!” Then, an even more malicious thought struck her. “No, cut out her tongue. I want her to never speak again.”
Her threats and frantic behavior revealed her insecurities. The more she tried to silence Nina, the more evident her guilt became. If it weren’t for the things Micah had told Nina, she wouldn’t have been able to provoke such a reaction. Nina let out a cold laugh.
Ivy looked at her with satisfaction. “What? Are you scared? Beg me for mercy, and maybe I’ll consider leaving you in one piece!”
Nina retorted, “You won’t answer me directly and now you want to silence me. Feeling guilty, aren’t you? Even if you kill me, a lie won’t become the truth.”
“Shut up! Shut up!” Ivy had hoped to see Nina grovel.
Faced with death, she should be afraid like everyone else who cowered under Ivy’s power. Why wasn’t she afraid? This was a direct challenge to Ivy’s authority.
“If you want me to shut up, you’ll have to kill me,” Nina taunted.
Ivy’s face contorted with rage. “You think I won’t?”
She grabbed a knife from one of her followers and pressed it against Nina’s face. “You may not fear death, but I’ll make you wish you were dead. First, I’ll scar your pretty face. Once it’s ruined, no one will like you. Then, I’ll cripple you, make you useless.” There was a twisted pleasure in Ivy’s eyes.
Nina remained still as the cold blade pressed against her cheek. She could feel the sting but kept her eyes on Ivy. “You seem so eager to disfigure me. Makes me wonder if you’ve had some bad experiences. Is your face even real? Looks like you’ve had some work done.” “You…” Ivy instinctively covered her face, fearing she had been exposed.
Nina’s words had struck a nerve.
“I’ll kill you, you witch!” Ivy seethed with rage.
Nina took a deep breath and closed her eyes, bracing for the worst.
Suddenly, the sound of an approaching car broke the tension.
Ivy’s knife was still at Nina’s face when an elderly man stepped out of the car.
“Miss Ivy!” The old man called out.
Ivy turned to look at him, still holding the knife. “Mr. Kerr?”
Mr. Kerr, dressed in a black robe with white hair, looked to be in his seventies but was still robust. He approached and, seeing Ivy about to harm Nina, remained calm as if used to such scenes. “Miss Ivy, today is not a good day for bloodshed. It’s time for you to return.” Reluctantly, Ivy lowered the knife from Nina’s face.
“Mr. Kerr, this woman tried to harm me. I can’t let her go!”
“We’ll discuss it when we return,” Mr. Kerr replied.
Ivy glared at Nina, her eyes full of malice. “You’re lucky this time, but don’t celebrate just yet!”
Nina, having narrowly escaped, watched Mr. Kerr closely as he returned to the car.
She was then roughly shoved into the vehicle, a black hood thrown over her head to obscure her vision.
The ride was long and uneventful, with Nina unable to see or gauge where she was being taken.
Eventually, the car stopped, and Nina was led out, still blindfolded. When the hood was finally removed, she found herself in a large courtyard.
The architecture was a mix of traditional elegance and modern style. It was clear that whoever owned this place was very powerful, and the estate was likely part of a larger complex.
“Get inside!” someone barked, shoving her forward.
“Where am I? How long are you going to keep me here?” Nina demanded.
She had no idea what was going to happen next.
