The man on the ground lay motionless.
“Take him away and feed him to the dogs!” a cold voice commanded, approaching.
In that moment, Nina understood why the girl would rather die than continue living here. “Stop.”
A deep, stern voice cut through the air. The two men immediately looked over. As soon as they saw Mr. Joker, their expressions changed. They lowered their heads respectfully. “Mr. Joker.”
Mr. Joker walked over to the unconscious man on the ground. He knelt down and checked his breathing. “He’s still alive. Even if he were dead, you can’t just feed him to the dogs. Slaves are hard to come by, and the Pharaoh’s death experiments haven’t succeeded yet. We need to minimize losses.”
“Yes, Mr. Joker,” the two men responded in unison, their previous arrogance and bloodlust completely gone.

Nina clenched her fists. Being here with some privileges meant it was only a matter of time before she met the Pharaoh.
She bit her lip and asked softly, “Can you take me to see Micah?”
Mr. Joker replied, “My boss didn’t give such orders. But since you have privileges, you can walk around. If you want to see something specific, I’ll take you. If not, you should go back and rest.” Nina’s request was denied. She stayed silent for a moment, then decided, “Take me for a walk.”
“Okay.”
Nina followed Mr. Joker, noticing how large and spacious the area was. High courtyard walls surrounded the place, with tall trees in the center. The branches extended over the walls. As they walked, she saw that even outside the walls, the courtyard continued, heavily patrolled.
It was a good thing that Mr. Joker was here. Otherwise, Nina might have tried to escape over the walls, which was a death sentence. Not immediate death, but a return to face more severe punishments, a fate worse than death.
“Are men and women held separately here?” Nina asked, finally gathering the courage to speak to Mr. Joker.
Since Mr. Joker was Micah’s man, and she had special privileges, she believed he would give her a straight answer.
Mr. Joker looked at her, a hint of surprise in his eyes. “You figured it out?”
Most newcomers were consumed by despair and fear, but Nina’s keen observation skills set her apart. She was smart, likely deducing Micah’s identity on her own.
“Yes,” Nina admitted.
Mr. Joker nodded. “Yes, for easier management, male and female slaves are kept separately. The courtyard is large. You can walk around. Over there is a large flower garden, and over there is where Miss Ivy stays.” As Mr. Joker described the surroundings, Nina instinctively looked towards Ivy’s quarters.
She locked eyes with a woman standing at the window, her face partially covered by a veil.
