Nina called out to the girl.
The girl stopped, hesitated for a few seconds, then started walking again.
Nina quickly rushed in front of her. “You’ve been tormented here for so long. Don’t you have any desire to fight back?”
Nina grabbed her wrist firmly.
Desire? How could she not have any?
But she was a slave. The Pharaoh’s men were all formidable warriors with weapons. Even if she had the will, she lacked the power. Besides, the others might not be as united in their resolve.
After all, the endless torture here had numbed many of them!
“I just want to survive. If I’m doomed to die, I’d rather it be quick and painless,” the girl replied with a bitter smile.
Nina fell silent.
Though the girl was only in her teens, her bitter smile and the desolation in her eyes made her seem like she had seen eighty years of hardship.
Nina patted her shoulder. “If we’re going to die anyway, we might as well put up a fight. If we die with purpose, it won’t be in vain. “I have a plan.”
The girl noticed the determination in Nina’s eyes and finally felt her resolve waver.
Ivy stormed back to her quarters, seething with rage.
She had only one thought. Nina must die.
But she had already confronted Nina, and Micah had seen their conflict. Micah had sided with Nina without even questioning what had happened.
If she made a move, Micah would definitely hold it against her.
So she sought out Seth.
But Seth’s men stopped her at the door. “Miss Ivy, Mr. Seth is currently unavailable.”
Ivy was stunned.
It was one thing for Micah to ignore her, but now Seth wouldn’t see her either?
“You dare stop me knowing who I am? What’s Mr. Seth doing that he can’t even see me?” Ivy fumed.
Already enraged by her encounter with Nina, this only fueled her anger further.
It seemed everyone around her had a death wish!
The guard was respectful but fearful. “Miss Ivy, I don’t know what Mr. Seth is doing. He instructed us not to let anyone in. When he’s done, he’ll come out to find you.”
Ivy’s chest heaved with anger.
But what could she do?
She could only stand outside, waiting impatiently.
Inside, Seth stood before Wilfred, who was immersed in a glass container.
Wilfred was completely naked, surrounded by a thick, foul smelling liquid. His dark eyes were bloodshot.
“Wilfred, you’ve come a long way. The Pharaoh invested a lot in you,” Seth said, holding a test tube filled with crimson blood. This blood had been drawn from Wilfred. Once purified, it had a faint medicinal fragrance and was a priceless treasure. Wilfred had willingly come to him, and this blood would allow him to create new medicines. Soon, he would surpass the Pharaoh. “You want to surpass the Pharaoh?” Wilfred scoffed, seeing through Seth’s ambitions. “You lack the Pharaoh’s vision. You will never become him.”
For years, Seth had served the Pharaoh, but secretly he had been doing things in opposition. He studied the Pharaoh, dreaming of surpassing him.
But people were different. Seth was merely imitating without true understanding.
Seth narrowed his eyes, displeased by the defiance.
