Chapter 749

Madeline:

He stood behind the podium, looking tall and broad, as though he hadn’t spent a single day in a coma.

His haircut was fresh.

His beard had been neatly trimmed, leaving just enough stubble to suit his style.

He wore several silver rings and chains, one of them hanging around his neck.

Black suited him so well.

It always had.

But it wasn’t possible.

Baxter was dead.

So who was he?

Who was the man impersonating my husband?

Then he spoke, and the voice- it was Baxter’s.

“He’s good at it, isn’t he?” Daniel remarked.

But I didn’t answer him.

It was as if I were looking at a ghost.

Tears welled in my eyes before I gasped and looked away.

The next time I looked back, I found him staring at me, his eyes boring into mine.

We silently held each other’s gaze.

Goosebumps spread across my skin before I finally stepped away from the balcony.

“I—I’m dreaming,” I whispered, placing a hand on my stomach.

“Are you okay?” Daniel asked, stepping closer to check on me.

I pushed him away, searching for something to hold onto and keep myself upright.

“This is a dream. I’m in a coma. Or maybe I’m dead,” I cried as my back hit the wall and I slowly lowered myself to the floor.

“What is going on? Are you okay?” Daniel sounded anxious after I started behaving erratically.

I shook my head, slapping his hand away each time he reached for me.

“I’m going to throw up,” I choked out before dropping to my hands and knees, gagging.

“Oh my God. Somebody get help!” Daniel shouted.

I looked up and saw him dialing a number.

“President, your wife is not well,” he reported.

Another wave of shock hit me.

Of course it was a dream.

Baxter wasn’t the president.

This was some twisted game the Moon Goddess was playing with me.

Maybe when the monster lifted the car, it somehow broke free, crashed back down, and killed me.

Or maybe I had fallen into a coma because none of this made any sense.

How could the world change so completely like this?

While I was breathing heavily and panicking, I heard footsteps.

I don’t know how I was able to hear them so clearly.

I don’t remember having that kind of ability.

Or maybe it was because they were the footsteps of the man I thought was dead.

The man I had loved and desperately longed to be in the arms of.

The man who was supposed to be there for me in the end.

Nothing made sense.

Then, finally, his scent reached me.

It was him.

Baxter.

My mate, my husband, the love of my life. The father of my children.

He stepped onto the balcony and turned toward me.

I looked up, and tears blurred my vision.

He stood there for a moment before suddenly lowering himself and scooping me

into his arms.

The moment I felt his touch, I just wanted to die in his arms.

I didn’t want anything else to happen after that.

I didn’t want to speak. I didn’t want to ask any questions.

I just wanted to cherish that moment.

As he called me downstairs and rushed to his car I caught only

briet glimpses of him through my blurred vision.

Still handsome.

Even more handsome than before.

He looked stronger now.

Even the way he held me made it seem as though he never wanted to let go.

He sat me down in the backseat of the car and got in beside me.

Then he quickly wrapped an arm around me and pulled me closer against his chest.

I don’t know how, but I ended up in his lap.

I clung to his chest, adjusting myself until I was sitting in his lap.

I’m sure even he was confused because I felt his heart skip a beat.

I didn’t know what was going on.

If it was a dream, I never wanted to wake up.

I’d been so lonely without him that even though I was a hundred percent sure I was in a coma and this was all just one beautifubdream,

I was happy:

So when I started feeling dizzy, I got scared.

I thought someone was waking me up from this dream, and I didn’t want that.

I clung tightly to his shirt before finally passing out against his chest.

The next time I woke up, I found myself in yet another unfamiliar room.

This time, it was a spacious bedroom with a large bed.

I was lying in the middle of it.

My eyes before I suddenly sat up,

I looked around to make sure I was still in that dream.

Sure enough, I was.

Because he walked out of the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist.
