His words might have been biting, but his deeds were remarkable. Despite the York Corporation’s involvement in various charitable endeavors, Nash had never personally intervened like this before. Nina chimed in, “It’s not that I’m the only one who can come here. It’s just that after I arrive, you follow with supplies. Such coincidental occurrences naturally raise suspicions. Since it’s not you, I won’t inquire further.”
She had many things to do and could not focus on competing with Nash. Moreover, he seemed very dissatisfied with her.
Seeing her indifferent attitude, Nash frowned slightly. He was harboring plenty of dissatisfaction towards her. And now, seeing her remain so aloof only added to his discontent.
“Sir, sir!”
Suddenly, Nina saw dozens of children running towards them. They ran fast and did not fear falling.
Nina knew they were calling for Nash. She could not help but turn around.
She saw the children leaning against the car window, their eyes filled with curiosity and gratitude as they sweetly called out, “Thank you, Sir. You’re so kind!”
It was the first time Nash had such close contact with children, let alone a dozen of them surrounding his car. He could not say whether he liked children or not, but he definitely did not like being surrounded and watched. Moreover, these children looked dirty and messy.
Nash’s expression remained cold, radiating a sense of aloofness and rejection. Nina thought that he probably did not like this feeling, being surrounded by so many noisy children, which would likely hinder his work.
He probably did not like children at all. After all, in her impression, she had never seen Nash show tenderness to any children.
She was afraid the children might provoke Nash, causing the supplies to be taken back. It would be a loss outweighing the gain. So she walked back, intending to take them away.
“Sir, did you call all those trucks here?” asked one innocent child leaning against the car.
Nash remained silent, indicating he was not going to engage with the children. Perhaps, to him, as a CEO, speaking with children from an orphanage was beneath his dignity.
“Why did you run out? Oh, and this is Mr. Nash York. Please don’t disturb him,” Nina interjected, trying to get them to go back inside to avoid causing trouble.
“Nina, Mr. York is a good person. He brought us supplies, so we have to thank him!” a little boy asserted.
“Yeah, thank you, Mr. York!” The group of children even bowed several times.
Nash’s brows furrowed deeper. Finally, he turned his profound gaze towards the children and asked in a low voice, “What did you call me?”
“Mr. York!” exclaimed several children with excitement.
Nash glanced at Nina. “You’re calling her by her name, Nina, and addressing me as Mr. York?”
He seemed displeased with being addressed in this manner.
“Yeah, she’s like a sister to us, so we call her Nina, and she gave us candy!” The children did not understand much, but whoever treated them well, they wanted everyone to know. They were grateful and happy.
With a stern expression, Nash instructed them, “If you’re calling her Nina, then call me Nash. Don’t address me as Mr. York. Alternatively, you can call her Miss Walker.”
“Why?” They tilted their heads, not quite understanding.
Nash stepped out of the car, his tall figure casting a huge shadow over them, making the children look up.
“No reason. You have two choices. Either you address me as Mr. York and her as Miss Walker, or you call her Nina and me Nash!” Nash’s tone was cold, his face stern, as usual. But this time, a few children burst into tears.
A few started crying, then all of them joined in.
Wiping their tears, they sobbed, “Mr. York is so scary. Is Mr. York the big bad wolf who eats people? I’m so scared!”
