She had discussed it with the chief editor, who found it feasible. The chief editor even mentioned including the orphanage segment in the new variety show. However, if more sponsorship and investors could be secured, it could actually be developed into a reality show focusing on child development.
Nina’s initial goal was to provide the orphanage children with a new home. Even though she had limited abilities and could not ensure every child in the world lived comfortably, she was determined to do her best within her means.
“Thank you for this,” Nina politely said. “You readily agreed to help me without hesitation, and I don’t know how to thank you.”
“You’re being too kind. You’re also helping me, and I should thank you,” Leonard said, leading Nina inside. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of this. The orphanage children will be taken care of.”
As Nina entered, the children joyfully shouted, “Miss Walker!” and rushed towards her.
“Miss Walker, we have meat to eat again!”
“Miss Walker, I still have a hairpin!”
They eagerly showed off their possessions one by one. Children were innocent and easily satisfied, as long as they had food, shelter, and clothing, they had no worries.
“I see. From now on, you will all have meat to eat, and you won’t suffer from malnutrition anymore!” Nina assured them.
“Thank you, Miss Walker!”
“No need to thank me. This is Mr. Leonard Hill. Thank him instead. He’s the one who helped you,” Nina said. “Thank you, Mr. Hill.” These children were polite and grateful, remembering anyone who was kind to them.
Leonard smiled and patted the children’s heads.
The director was busy, so Nina greeted her briefly and then focused on the children again.
“Miss Walker, where’s Mr. York? Why didn’t he come?” one child asked with wide eyes. “Why isn’t he here with you?” Nina hesitated for a moment before replying, “He’s busy and couldn’t make it this time. But he’ll come next time.”
“Okay!”
“I know! Mr. York is Miss Walker’s husband, and he’s busy working to make money for you, so that’s why he’s so busy!” The children laughed happily again. Nina was speechless.
Leonard was somewhat surprised and asked, “Is what they’re saying true?”
“The children are just making things up. Don’t take it all too seriously,” Nina replied. “I’ll have someone take some photos.”
She called over a photographer.
Leonard resumed their conversation, “Weren’t you at York Corporation before? You spent seven years there. After graduating, you’ve been with York Corporation all along. It’s hard to imagine you resigning and joining a TV station. That’s not like you.”
He thought Nina was sentimental. If she could stay at York Corporation for so many years, they must have treated her well. Plus, being Nash’s secretary, her treatment was better than many others. Going to a TV station seemed like a step down.
Nina paused for a moment. Answering such questions always made her feel uneasy, bringing back memories of the past.
“One has to try new things,” Nina joked. “If I’m not at the TV station, how would I have the chance to work with you again?”
Leonard laughed along, “You’ve got a point.”
Nina walked with the photographer, with Leonard following behind. She took notes with pen and paper, preparing to include them in her report later.
They passed by a pile of freshly slaughtered livestock, still bloody and wrapped in a bag, emitting a strong stench of blood.
Most people would not be bothered by the smell, but Nina instantly felt her stomach churn.
