Nash had heard of this name back in the military, but he could never track down the person.
“You’ve never seen him either?” Nash asked.
Wilfred shook his head. “He’s very secretive. He never shows himself to anyone. He’s skilled in both virology and combat. That’s all I know about him.” Involving this criminal organization made things even more serious. It seemed that Nina might have been caught up in this long ago.
This matched with her disappearance for an entire summer during high school, when a criminal gang was busted. Many were captured, and many died.
Now, it seemed that one would be released soon, and this Pharaoh was still at large.
Nash looked at Wilfred. “Aren’t you afraid of the organization retaliating against you for telling me all this?”
Wilfred smiled. “I’ve told you, my purpose for living is to protect her. Besides, I’m a healer. Creating a healer takes a lot of resources and effort. They won’t harm me.” Wilfred’s willingness to risk his life for Nina surprised Nash. They clearly had a deep connection, one that Nash had not been part of, which made him feel a bit jealous.
“Is she still unconscious?” Wilfred asked.
“She suddenly collapsed and hasn’t woken up since,” Nash replied.
Wilfred frowned and was evidently worried about Nina.
Nash made up his mind. “You’ve helped Nina. I’ll find a way to help you gain your freedom. For now, we need to find the antidote.”
Wilfred thought for a moment. “Regarding the antidote, she might have it.”
“Who?”
Nina slept for an entire day and night. Nash stayed by her side the whole time. As long as she was unconscious, he could not relax, not even to sleep.
When Nina finally woke up, it was midday. She opened her eyes, still feeling very tired. She moved her fingers and realized someone was holding her hand. She looked up to see Nash.
With a hoarse voice, she asked, “What happened to me? And why do you look so worn out?”
She saw his bloodshot eyes and the stubble on his face. She had never seen him look so disheveled.
Nash’s face lit up with a rare smile. “You’re awake. That’s all that matters. I promise I won’t make you angry anymore, okay?”
“Angry?” Nina was still trying to piece things together.
She lifted her hand, asking Nash to help her sit up. “I remember you telling me not to provoke Miranda to pave the way for her. I was indeed upset about that. What happened afterward? How did I fall asleep?”
Her memory was slowly coming back, but something felt off. She could not understand how she had just fallen asleep like that.
Nash helped her sit up, propping a pillow behind her back. “You were exhausted. The doctor said you were overworked and needed rest.”
“Really?” Nina was skeptical. “Then why do you look so worried? I thought I had some terminal illness seeing you so upset.”
“Don’t say such things,” Nash said firmly. “You’ll live a long and healthy life.”
“How long have I been asleep?”
“Almost 24 hours.”
“That long?” Nina was surprised. “I’ve never slept that long before.”
Nash hugged her tightly. “Pregnancy is different.”
He said it lightly, but his eyes welled up with tears that Nina could not see.
He was deeply worried.
He was afraid that Nina might not make it through this.
