Scott smiled and looked deeply at Nina. “Maybe it’s faith.”
“Isn’t there a way to avoid going?” Nina was still worried about him.
Scott replied, “I have to go. Don’t worry about me. I’ve been through a lot, trust me, I’ll come back safely!”
It was rare for him to speak like this. Despite the danger, why was he willing to take the risk?
Nina’s expression grew heavy. She did not want him to take this risk.
“Can I hug you?” Scott asked. “It might be a while before we see each other again.”
Nina looked at him, thinking there was no reason not to hug him. She opened her arms like an old friend.
Scott, always the gentleman, only wrapped his arms around her back and gently patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.”
“But you said it’s dangerous. I can’t help but worry about you,” Nina said.
“It’s enough that you care,” Scott smiled more deeply and whispered, “This trip is worth it.”
After hugging for a while, they separated. Scott waved at her like he always did, but it felt more like a farewell, as if they would never see each other again. “Scott!”
Just before Scott left, Nina called out to him.
He rolled down the car window and gazed at her.
“Come back soon,” Nina urged.
Scott nodded lightly and slowly drove out of her sight. A wave of unease washed over Nina, her heart tightening with worry.
She stayed outside for a long time before slowly turning back inside.
In the following days, Nina focused entirely on filming. Their niche drama did not attract much attention and did not follow mainstream trends. There had not been much publicity or coverage of the drama so far.
Miranda’s drama was different. With the backing of a popular series and the gossip surrounding Miranda and Nash’s relationship, they trended daily. Their fans even started shipping them as a couple. Nash’s previous proposal to another woman was quickly forgotten.
The fast-paced nature of the internet made people forget past events quickly. Time flew by, and Nina noticed her belly getting bigger. Standing up was becoming increasingly difficult.
“Nina, are you too exhausted? It looks like you’re having trouble getting up,” said Nelly, who had been busy with filming and had not noticed Nina’s pregnancy. She assumed she was not feeling well.
Nina shook her head. “I’m not unwell, it’s just that my belly is getting in the way.”
Nelly focused on her belly and finally noticed. “Hey, it looks like your belly is getting bigger every day. It looks like you’re pregnant.”
Nina pressed her lips together, and Angel chimed in, “She is pregnant. Didn’t you know?”
“What!” Nelly exclaimed. “Nina, you look so young. Are you married?”
She was clueless and said the wrong thing.
Angel muttered, “He’s a heartless jerk!”
Nina smiled and said, “I’m divorced. This child is mine alone.”
Nelly was moved. She grabbed Nina’s hand. “You’re pregnant, and you still invested everything you have into my film. You’re practically my savior!”
“That’s unnecessary. With effort comes reward. I didn’t do it for free,” Nina replied. “I’m just taking a gamble.”
Regardless, to Nelly, it was an immense favor. Having been in the industry for so long, no one else would have taken such a risk on her.
“Don’t say that. You’re not just an investor. You’re the heart and soul of this film. Without you, this drama wouldn’t exist,” Nelly insisted. “This drama needs to have you as a director!”
