Hearing her call his name, Seth’s composure wavered. “Are you a person or a ghost?”
The wind blew, lifting Nina’s hair, and with her pale face, she looked more haunting than ever.
Seth furrowed his brows, feeling immense pressure.
Nina was momentarily at a loss for words, afraid to say the wrong thing. However, she sensed that Seth harbored some fear-inducing secret.
Seth quickly calmed down, realizing the woman he feared was dead and could not be here.
He scrutinized Nina’s face more closely, then narrowed his eyes dangerously. “No, you must be Nina! You actually dared to come here alone to find me. Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you?”
Nina’s identity was exposed, but she held her ground and coldly smiled. “You figured it out. Though we’ve never met, you know my name, Seth. It seems there’s a connection between us.” Seth, wary of being tricked, asked, “Connection? What connection?”
Nina boldly stated, “The little dark room. You’re the one who locked me in there!”
Seth was shocked. “You remember?”
Nina had been guessing, but his reaction confirmed it. She still did not understand their full connection. “Why were you able to get close to me?”
Logically, she should have been safe while she was still a student, not easily kidnapped. She also wondered why she was so familiar with the terrain.
“You’re trying to trick me again!” Seth’s brows furrowed, realizing she did not know much.
Nina steadied herself. In this psychological battle, she needed to be stronger.
She walked toward him, still smiling. “I’m not afraid of dying. What’s a little trickery? Oh, I noticed you were quite scared when you first saw me. Did I remind you of someone?” Seth’s eyes turned cold. “You’re really not afraid of death!”
“Don’t move!” Nina warned. “There might be snipers aiming at you from the shadows!”
Seth became more vigilant, scanning the surroundings. Surrounded by mountains, there could indeed be snipers.
But then he sneered. “If there were snipers, I’d be dead already. You’re here alone, Nina. You’ve got guts!”
He pointed his gun at Nina.
“Then kill me and see if you can escape!” she retorted, her eyes cold.
Seth hesitated. He valued his life too much to risk it recklessly. He was not afraid of losing his lab but feared losing his life. He had sacrificed many lives to escape from prison. “Don’t come any closer!” Seth warned, the pressure still weighing heavily on him. “Move, and I will shoot!”
Nina’s presence continued to add to his stress. He hadn’t killed her before. Now his priority was survival. All he could think about was how to escape.
Yet, Nina, unafraid of death, was determined to stop him.
Using fragmented memories, Nina demanded, “Why did you lock me in the dark room? Who ordered you to do it?”
Seth clenched his fists, sweat dripping from his forehead, showing how much her questions affected him.
Unable to withstand the pressure, Seth decided if he were to die, he would take her with him.
He aimed at her head and pulled the trigger.
“Bang!”
A gunshot rang out.
