Hearing his words, Nina felt a twinge of heartache. The long period of tension between them had left her to face everything on her own. It was too tough. Despite putting on a brave front, being in love made her vulnerable. Now, as she listened to him, her eyes welled up with tears.

Nina, leaning against his chest, continued crying and pounding his chest. “Why couldn’t we face it together? Do you think bearing it alone is better? Aren’t we supposed to be a team? Do you know what being married means? It means facing every difficulty together, but you left me behind! You might think you’re a hero, but I don’t accept it! I can’t stand it!”
Nash let her hit him, his eyes filled with nothing but tenderness and affection. Even if she were to stab him in anger right now, he would still smile.
He held her tightly, his love for her deeply ingrained. “I know I was wrong. I just didn’t want you to suffer, not even a bit. I’d trade my life to make sure you suffer less. Do you understand? I’d rather you hate me than face death alone. Nina, I will make sure you survive!” This was his conviction, his way of protecting her.

Nash looked at her, thinking for a moment. “Alright, but you stay and rest while I finish up. We’ll go home together after.”
Nina finally smiled. “Okay.”
Nash gently touched her hair and couldn’t help but pull her into another embrace. But his brows furrowed as he felt his body’s unusual reactions. He fought to hide his discomfort, not wanting Nina to notice.
At the police station, Nina got out of the car but didn’t walk with Nash. To avoid disrupting his work, she obediently waited in the lounge. Through the window, she saw Wilfred approach Nash, and they walked off together in another direction. She settled onto the couch, trying to relax.
Out of her sight, Nash leaned against a wall, breathing heavily, the ringing in his ears growing more intense. Wilfred, who had been walking beside him, stopped and turned to face Nash, seeing his struggle.
With a serious expression, Wilfred pulled Nash aside. “Did you not get the antidote?”
Nash clenched his fists, trying to control the overwhelming force within him.
His voice was hoarse as he said, “Don’t tell Nina…”
