“Now you remember I’m your manager? But whenever something happens, you run to the company or Mr. York instead. Go find him. Why come to me now? You treat me like I’m invisible. Now that Mr. York isn’t helping you, you turn to me? I’m done being your manager!” The manager had had enough of Miranda’s tantrums and arrogance. If it were not for the powerful backers she had, the manager would not have put up with her. “Hey, wait…”
The manager hung up before Miranda could finish her sentence. With Miranda constantly in the headlines, even ten managers would be overwhelmed. Fuming at the lack of support, Miranda threw her phone against the wall. “He kicks me while I’m down! What a bastard!”
Her assistant was equally frantic. “Miranda, maybe you should call Mr. York. You’re supposed to be getting married, right? He’ll definitely help you…”
The assistant, unaware of the recent developments, still believed Miranda and Nash were on good terms and that he would solve her problems.
“If he could help, would I be in this mess?” Miranda snapped.
She clung to the hope that Nash would come through. But deep down, she knew that just because he got her out of jail did not mean he would always come to her rescue. Otherwise, this situation would have been handled quietly, never making it to the public eye. The doorbell rang.
“Miss Miranda, Mrs. York is here to see you again,” the helper reported.
The assistant interjected, “I thought I told you to send her away every time she comes…”
“Wait.” Miranda asked, “Is it Sally?”
The assistant grumbled, “Mrs. York comes by often. I always tell her you’re busy and not at home, but she’s persistent.”
“Let her in,” Miranda decided. She was desperate, and Sally was her last hope. Sally felt indebted to her and would do anything to help.
Sally had visited many times, losing hope of seeing her. But this time, she was ecstatic to be let in.
“Miranda,” Sally called out joyfully as she entered, carrying a homemade soup. She always brought something whenever she visited.
Seeing the person she missed so much, Sally’s face softened with rare tenderness. She did not blame Miranda for avoiding her and she felt sorry for her instead. “Why did it take you so long to come home? I’ve missed you so much. You look thinner. I made some nutritious soup to help you regain your strength.”
She placed the thermos on the table and reminded her, “It’s still warm.”
Miranda’s eyes reddened, and she said softly, “Sally, I’m sorry. Work has kept me so busy I haven’t been able to come home. I’m really sorry to have kept you waiting.”
“I understand, dear. I don’t blame you,” Sally said, holding her hand.
Noticing Miranda’s red eyes, she asked, “What’s wrong? I saw you crying as soon as I got here. Did Nash bully you? I’ve seen the recent news about your wedding. Nash hasn’t been home much, and I’ve had no way to contact either of you. If he’s really mistreating you, I’ll definitely have a word with him.”
Sally was thrilled about the news of their wedding, even though they hadn’t told her directly. She had to find out from the internet.
Hearing this, Miranda’s eyes turned even redder, and she said, “It’s nothing… Sally, don’t worry too much.”
The assistant interjected, “How can she not worry? Recently, Miranda’s reputation has been ruined by certain people interfering in their relationship. Now, Miranda is facing the threat of being blacklisted!”
