James realized how foolish he had been.
Seeing Nina’s presence and still doubting if she would come made James feel foolish. He thought she was just a stand-in. It definitely didn’t make him look very smart.
“Of course, I knew,” James said. “But I didn’t have the chance to see you. By the way, where’s Scarlett? Didn’t she come with you?”
Nina’s face fell at the mention of Scarlett. “We got separated. I don’t know where she is now. I need to find her.”
James paused, then reassured her, “We’ll find her eventually. With her experience, she should be alright.”
Nina wasn’t sure if Scarlett was dead or alive, or if she had managed to escape. Ultimately, she needed to find a way to infiltrate the Pharaoh’s territory.

“I don’t know,” Chana replied, her eyes red. She looked at Nash and said, “Captain York, could you hold Chacha? He always listens to you.”
“Maybe if you hold him, he’ll stop crying.”
Nina was taken aback. She looked at Chana, then at the child, sensing an unusual dependency on Nash. She understood a woman losing her loved ones in war, but something felt off. “I’m on duty,” Nash said coldly. “You’re his mother. If you can’t calm him down, who can?”
Arin chimed in, “Yeah, you’re his mother. If you can’t soothe your child, how can you expect Captain York to? He’s a soldier, not a babysitter.”

Chana quickly explained, “That’s not what I meant. I just thought Captain York could cheer him up. Chacha likes him the most!”
“I’ll take him,” an older woman said. “I raised my grandchildren, so I’m great with kids. Let’s not trouble Captain York.” The older woman put down her basket and took Chacha from Chana.
Chana had hoped Nash would react like he did the first time, gently comforting the child. She believed that fate had brought another man to her side after Chacha lost his father. But now, with a rival in the picture, her plan backfired.
Seeing Nash unfazed, Chana decided to introduce herself. “I don’t think we’ve met. Judging by your looks, you must be from the same place as Captain York.”
“Yes,” Nina replied politely.
Chana smiled warmly, “Hello, I’m Chana. Captain York probably didn’t mention me. They rescued me along the way and have kindly let me stay with the group.”
