“Are you trying to send me away?” Wilfred asked, sensing the implication in Nina’s words. His voice was raspy, tinged with a deep sadness.
Nina was silent for a few seconds before she smiled and said, “Wilfred, all good things must come to an end. We each have our own paths to follow. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be here.” Wilfred had his own plans, but they had changed because of her.
“Yes, if it weren’t for your situation, I wouldn’t have come here. But Nina, I just want to do something for you, to make myself valuable,” he said, sitting in front of her. His gaze was filled with determination and deep affection. Nina understood Wilfred’s feelings, but her heart belonged to Nash. With Nash missing, she had no room for anyone else.
Pretending not to notice, she replied, “Wilfred, you need to follow your own path. I know you feel that as a healer, you can help me…”
“Nina, I know now isn’t the best time to say this, but I have to. If I don’t, you’ll never know how I feel. Nina, I love you,” Wilfred confessed. Nina had always said that she was Nina, not Ivy.
She did not like being called Ivy, so at this moment, as he expressed his feelings, Wilfred refrained from calling her Ivy.
Nina remained silent.
Wilfred’s eyes were full of tenderness and sorrow. “Nina, I’m willing to stay by your side, to take care of you. Whenever you need me, I’ll be here.”

There was no room for anyone else. Shaking her head, she said, “I understand, but whether Nash is alive or not, whether he comes back or not, I will never love anyone else.”
Wilfred did not push further, knowing it was not the right time. But he was resolute in his decision to stay and protect her.
Feeling exhausted, Nina wanted to sleep. Wilfred noticed her fatigue and gently said, “If you want to sleep, go ahead. I’ll wake you if anything comes up.”
“Okay,” Nina murmured, closing her eyes and quickly drifting off to sleep.
In her dream, she saw Nash with his back to her. He was tall, but his clothes were tattered. When he turned around, she saw he had no features on his face, and it startled her.
Reaching out to touch him, she was caught by Nash. His voice was damaged, almost unrecognizable. “Nina, stop looking for me. I’m never coming back.”
“What am I to you then? You’ve planned everything out, only to leave me behind. What do I mean to you?” Nina’s voice was desperate and full of anguish.
Nash stroked her cheek. “Nina, I’m doing this to protect you. You’ll always be my one and only. I love you and can’t bear to see you in danger. Now, you need to live on…”
