“You’ve been a war journalist for years now, so you should know that Seth isn’t dead. Seth is ambitious and has been used as a pawn. I need your help with something,” Micah said, taking a deep breath to steady his emotions before speaking slowly to Nina. Nina was silent for a few seconds. “What kind of help?” she asked. If Micah had come to her, it was likely something she could help with. Otherwise, he would not have asked.
“When Miranda assumed your identity, Seth almost gained control of the Yaren tribe. If you come back to the Yaren tribe with me, Seth will definitely make a move,” Micah explained, his gaze fixed on Nina.
Nina remained calm and emotionless, but she did not respond immediately. Just as Micah thought she would not agree, she quietly said, “Alright, I’ll go back with you.”
Years ago, when she and Nash were in the Yaren tribe, and she was captured by Miranda, it was Micah who had protected her from the shadows. Since he had come to her for help, she felt obliged to assist him. “We need to leave today,” Micah urged, pressed for time.
“Can we wait a few days?” Nina asked. Normally, she would leave immediately, but with Orion now in her care, she could not just abandon him.
Micah sensed there was more to her request. After a brief pause, he asked, “Why wait a few days?”
Nina should have had no ties now. She said, “There’s a child with me. The embassy asked me to take care of him for three days.”
She did not hide anything from Micah, and he finally understood. In the past five years, Nina had not only been a war journalist but also a humanitarian, helping many children and the elderly. The locals even called her an “angel.” “Alright, I’ll come back for you in three days.”
“Okay,” Nina agreed.
During the next three days, she continued her reporting while Orion stayed by her side, quiet and obedient. If it weren’t for their previous conversations, she might have thought he was mute. Orion was helpful, bringing her water, watering the plants, and hanging up towels.
When she took him to the embassy, Orion was clearly reluctant. The embassy called her, saying, “Miss Nina, we haven’t found any information about him. Our options are to send him to a local orphanage or repatriate him to a welfare institution in Birkham.”
Nina felt deeply conflicted about sending such a young child to an orphanage, especially after spending three days with him. Orion’s eyes looked as red as a rabbit’s. But she knew they had to part ways eventually.
Holding Orion’s hand, she gently explained, “Orion, I have other things to do. The embassy couldn’t find your identity, so you’ll have to go to the orphanage for now. We will see each other again someday.” Orion did not speak but clung to her hand, looking up at her with hopeful eyes.
Just as Nina was about to say more, Orion’s face turned pale, and he suddenly began to struggle to breathe.
Alarmed, Nina held him tightly. “Orion, Orion, what’s wrong?”
His lips turned blue, and his eyes lost focus. With no other option, she hurriedly carried him to find a military doctor.
