Freya was completely serious. If she could not be with Micah, she would rather spend the rest of her life alone.
Micah was silent, just about to say something when Freya spoke first. “Mr. Micah, I’ve never seen you with a woman. Do you… like men?” She could not even meet his gaze as she asked, her voice trembling slightly. Micah’s expression darkened immediately.
Before he could respond, Pharaoh strode into the room, cutting through the tension. “Good, you’re awake. Take these meds,” he said, handing a small packet of medicine to Micah.
Without a word, Micah took the medicine and swallowed it. Freya quickly offered him a glass of water, which he accepted. But before anything else could be said, Pharaoh shot Freya a pointed look, and she quietly excused herself, leaving the father and son alone. “Salterra has sent an envoy,” Pharaoh stated. “When you’re well enough, I want you to handle the negotiations.”
Micah frowned. There hadn’t been any contact between Salterra and the Yaren Tribe for years, and now, out of the blue, they send an envoy? It was obvious this had something to do with Nash.
“I understand,” Micah replied curtly.
Despite his injuries, Micah met with the envoy, a strikingly beautiful woman. She greeted him with a calm composure. “I’ve come to discuss a potential partnership between our nations,” she began. “Salterra is in need of certain medicinal herbs that your tribe possesses in abundance.”
She paused, her eyes locking onto Micah’s. “And I also need your help to arrange a meeting with Nash. He is the Third Prince of Salterra, and I have urgent matters to discuss with him.”
Micah could not help but smirk. “Your so-called partnership is just a cover to find someone. If you want to see him, go find him yourself.”
The woman remained unfazed. “The person we seek is within your tribe, Mr. Micah. We’re offering you a chance to cooperate, but if you refuse, we are prepared to take more drastic measures.” Her words were clear and direct. Though the Yaren Tribe had distanced itself from conflict in recent years, they were not ones to back down from a challenge.
Micah scoffed, “Two nations may be at war, but we don’t harm envoys. However, if you’re bold enough to challenge us right under my nose, know that the Yaren Tribe won’t back down an inch!” Even though his face was pale from his injuries, the natural authority in his voice made it clear that he was not to be underestimated.
The woman did not flinch. “I want to see Nash,” she repeated calmly.
Micah was uninterested in continuing the conversation.
However, he relayed her message to Nash word for word “I’m not telling you this to act as a messenger,” Micah said flatly. “But let me be clear. Our tribe stands firmly behind Nina. If she is threatened or harmed in any way, we will be the first to take action.”
It was only because of Nina’s affection for him that they had allowed him to stay. Should his presence bring her any pain or danger, they would not hesitate to remove him from her life.
Nash understood the warning in Micah’s eyes. After being separated from Nina for five years, he was determined not to lose her again. This was a matter he needed to handle with utmost care.
When Nash finally met with the Salterra envoy, he was shocked to see who it was.
“I have a wife and a child,” Nash said, his tone harsh and devoid of any warmth. “You’ve known this for a long time. So why are you here? What do you hope to accomplish?” His face was a mask of anger and disdain.
