Chapter 1062

Micah clutched his head in agony, releasing a pained scream. Seeing him like this was gut-wrenching for Nina, but even more so for Freya, who had been by his side every day. Nina stepped forward, gently placing a hand on his shoulder, her voice soft and soothing.
“Micah, this isn’t your fault. Please don’t push yourself like this—”
“It is my fault! If it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t have made that sacrifice. I’ve seen death so many times, but I’ve never felt like this before. Nina, you don’t understand! I watched her die right in front of me…” Micah’s voice was hoarse, cutting through Nina’s words, each word carrying the weight of his torment. Nina had never seen him so broken, and it left her feeling helpless.
Afraid he might lose control, she quickly called their father. Before long, Pharaoh arrived with a team from the lab. Seeing Micah in this state, Pharaoh felt an overwhelming sadness. This was his son, after all.
But when Pharaoh examined Micah, he discovered that Micah had been secretly taking phenobarbital. It was a drug Pharaoh had modified, which had addictive properties. Micah’s recent breakdown was a result of withdrawal from not taking the medication on time. Pharaoh immediately set new rules. From now on, any medication from the lab would require approval. Additionally, anyone who knew about Micah’s drug use was silenced. As the leader of the Yaren Tribe, Micah had many enemies who would exploit this weakness if it became public.
Freya wanted to stay by Micah’s side, but Pharaoh stopped her. “Micah can be absent because of work, but what reason would you have for being absent?”
Freya realized the implication immediately, but she couldn’t bear to leave him. “He wasn’t with me on our wedding night. He’s been in so much pain lately. If I can’t stay with him now, then what am I?”
Her voice trembled, as if something was lodged in her throat. Her heart felt as if it was being squeezed by an invisible hand.
Micah had previously considered that certain circumstances might force him to separate from Freya, leaving her feeling neglected. However, at this moment, she couldn’t bring herself to abandon him alone. “Father, please, let me stay with him…”
Pharaoh remained silent, his expression stern.
Nina, seeing Freya’s distress, spoke up. “Father, let her stay with Micah. You’re here to handle things in the tribe. Nothing will go wrong in the meantime.”
After a moment, Pharaoh agreed. “Alright, you can stay and take care of him.”
“Thank you, Father…” Freya wiped away her tears and rushed to Micah’s side.
She gripped his hand tightly, feeling more certain than ever. No matter what happened, no matter where they were, she would stand by his side, through life and death.
She even blamed herself for not protecting him better, for letting him spiral into guilt and pain, for turning to drugs to cope.
Micah heard every word she said. When Freya finally broke down in tears, he reached out and wiped them away.
“Silly girl, this isn’t your fault. Why are you crying?”
Freya’s heart leaped with joy when she saw his eyes open. “Micah, you’re awake! You scared me so much…”
