On the second floor, she noticed a door that was slightly ajar. Nash must be inside.
Nina rolled up her sleeves and pushed open the door with her cold and determined expression.
“Nash, stop being a coward. Can’t you just be straightforward…?”
Standing in the doorway, her eyes locked onto Nash sprawled on the floor.
He looked utterly defeated, surrounded by empty bottles, still clutching one with some liquor left. It seemed he had been drinking all day.
Nina had been furious, ready to confront him. She had planned to say the most hurtful things, aiming to crush his pride and make him feel worthless. But things did not go as she had imagined.
Seeing Nash drunk and disheveled, any cruel words she had prepared now seemed pointless. He would not hear them anyway.
However, she could not understand why Nash had drunk himself into such a state.
Wasn’t he supposed to be happy with Miranda?
Hadn’t he rid himself of her?
He had humiliated her, boosting his own ego. He should be happy, so why did he seem so miserable?
This was a side of him she had never seen before, revealing his helplessness, defeat, and pain all at once.
She clenched her fists, her emotions swirling. She decided not to engage in a confrontation, choosing to leave the room instead.
Just as she turned to go, she heard a faint voice.
“Nina.”
His voice was raspy and low.
Nina frowned, not intending to turn back.
“Nina…”
She was about to leave, but he kept calling her name, making her hesitate.
She finally glanced back at him.
At this moment, Nash lay on his side, seeming to have woken up. His eyes were hazy and his hand was reaching out as if desperately trying to grasp her.
Nina’s emotions became even more conflicted. She walked back to him.
“Am I dreaming?” Nash asked, a bitter smile on his lips as he saw her approach. “Why are you here?”
“Why do you think it’s a dream? Do you want to see me that much?” Nina squatted down and asked coldy. “Why did you drink so much?”
Nash, seemingly not hearing her question, pulled her into a tight embrace. Instinctively, Nina tried to break free, but Nash held her even tighter.
“Nash, let go of me!” Nina became agitated. “I’m here to tell you to stop having people follow me. We have nothing to do with each other anymore. Can you just stop being pathetic?”
Then she felt something warm on her hand-tears. Nash’s tears had soaked her hand, making it even warmer, almost scalding.
Nina froze, unable to process what was happening. Was this really tears?
She reached out and touched Nash’s face, discovering that his eyes were indeed wet.
Nash buried his head in her embrace, his voice came out hoarse and low but clear, “Nina, it doesn’t matter if the child isn’t mine. That stopped being important a long time ago. I don’t care whose child it is, I only care about you. As long as you’re happy, that’s enough. Now, I care about one more thing-you being alive and healthy.”
Nina stood there, listening to Nash’s words with her eyes wide open.
For some reason, her heart ached.

Did she mishear him?
She could not believe he would say something like this when he was drunk.
He did not care about the child’s paternity. He only cared about her.

Nina’s hands fell to her sides, and she slumped to the floor, tears welling up in her eyes.
