Chapter 140
Chapter 140:
Cristian smirked, brimming with confidence. “I can promise you’ll be impressed p>
Fernanda arched an eyebrow, her voice laced with playful skepticism. “Oh? Are you that certain? Does everyone rave about your cooking, then p>
He gave a nonchalant shrug. “I don’t cook for just anyone—it’s not a privilege I often extend p>
While expertly marinating the beef strips, he added without looking up, “You’re the first woman I’ve ever chosen to cook for p>
Fernanda pressed her lips together, swallowing a lump in her throat as her heartbeat quickened.
Damn it. Her emotions were spinning out of control.
A surge of frustration swept through her. How could she have let herself get to this point? Was she really so easy to sway with a few sweet words and a home-cooked meal?
With a deliberate breath, she stepped out of the kitchen and sank onto the living room couch.
“There’s fruit in the fridge if you’d like something,” Cristian’s voice drifted from the kitchen.
Fernanda reached for a pear, its coolness grounding her as she bit into it.
The sweetness spread across her tongue to her throat.
From where she sat, she could see Cristian moving with effortless grace in the kitchen.
For someone like him, patience and time were luxuries more meaningful than money.
Wealth came easily to him, making it simple to impress others with grand gestures. A fancy birthday dinner at an upscale restaurant would have required little effort.
But instead, he had brought her home, taking the time to prepare her a personal birthday meal. The gesture revealed a thoughtfulness that was far harder to ignore.
A fleeting thought crossed her mind: had Cristian been in many relationships before? How else would he know exactly how to leave such an impression on a woman?
The sweetness of the pear turned strangely bland in her mouth. Setting it aside, she shifted her focus to the window, willing herself to stop overthinking.
Evening approached, the oppressive afternoon heat giving way to a cooler breeze. The setting sun painted the sky in vibrant streaks of orange and purple, transforming it into a living canvas.
Drawn by the beauty of the gorgeous sunset, Fernanda stepped onto the balcony, her hair billowing in the gentle night breeze.
Leaning against the railing, she caught sight of a painting of an elegant landscape mounted on the white wall.
Wait a minute…
Wasn’t this her painting?
