Chapter 159
Chapter 159:
“They’ve tried, but it hasn’t helped,” Bonita replied, her voice tinged with helplessness. “My parents were so worried about me that we moved away, but they still found us. His mom even knelt in front of us, begging me not to leave him. She said he had no other friends and was pitiful. My parents felt sorry for him, and so did I, so we didn’t cut ties, thinking he’d get better as he grew up p>
Wendy snorted, crossing her arms. “Pitiful? Maybe. But what about you? Aren’t you the real victim here? I saw how scared you were back there. You’re the one suffering p>
Bonita bit her lip, her silence loud with unspoken agreement.
“You need to stay as far away from him as possible,” Wendy said, her tone sharp. “Not because of his bipolar disorder, but because of his control over you. That kind of possessiveness is horrifying. What, are you supposed to spend your life following his every command? Don’t you deserve your own life p>
“Exactly!” Sloane chimed in. “He doesn’t respect you. I didn’t get a good feeling about him either, and I doubt he’ll ever treat you right. Maybe you see him differently because of your history, but I wouldn’t give someone like him a second thought p>
If Sloane were in Bonita’s position, she’d already be on the first bus out of town, ignoring any tears or pleas left in her wake.
“But what choice do I have now?” Bonita whispered, her voice heavy with resignation. “He’s already here in Esaham. I think he came looking for me… because of Neal p>
At the mention of Neal, a sudden realization struck Fernanda like lightning. Neal was the one now in the greatest danger.
When Bonita returned to the dorm building that evening, a hand shot out of the shadows, yanking her into a dimly lit corner.
Her instincts screamed danger. She opened her mouth to cry out, but another hand clamped firmly over her lips.
“It’s me,” a voice murmured close to her ear. The familiarity of it struck her—Beckett.

Bonita’s fear deepened, her body trembling uncontrollably.
In the faint light, she couldn’t see his face, but his oppressive presence loomed over her, stifling and menacing. Her breath hitched as his hand pressed harder, covering both her mouth and nose, leaving her gasping for air.
She writhed desperately, shaking her head, every muscle straining against his unyielding grip.
“I’ll let go,” Beckett whispered, his voice low and threatening. “But if you scream, I’ll kiss you p>
Tears welled up in her eyes, streaming down her cheeks as she nodded frantically, her body trembling in surrender.
Only then did he release her.
Air rushed into her lungs, and Bonita gasped like a drowning swimmer breaching the surface.
She bent forward, clutching her knees as she struggled to steady her breath. “What… what are you doing here?” she managed to ask, her voice trembling with fear.
