Chapter 628
He asked Fernanda with a blank expression, “What brings you here?”
“Just checking out your team,” Fernanda replied, her eyes scanning the group. “Who’s leading you guys?”
Kevin straightened up, a noticeable swell of pride in his voice. “That would be me.”
Fernanda’s smile momentarily stiffened.
“Really? You?” She looked at Kevin with bright eyes, as if she couldn’t believe it, and asked again, “And you’re ‘Fourteen’?”
“Yes,” Kevin said, running a hand through his hair and meeting her gaze with a hint of defiance. “Why? Is there an issue with my username?”
Fernanda was hit by a wave of realization.
She could hardly grasp the coincidence; her online friend of two years was actually her half-brother.
The difference between Kevin’s bold, almost cocky attitude now and his humble online persona was remarkable.
It felt absurd.
Noticing Fernanda’s prolonged silence, Kevin continued, “What’s the matter? Why are you asking about my username?”
“It’s nothing, really. It’s impressive that you’re the one leading your team,” Fernanda replied. “But maybe consider updating your user ID? You’re fifteen now, after all.”
Kevin’s expression soured, embarrassment flashing across his face as he retorted, “Mind your own business!”
Fernanda was at a loss for words.
“Why is he so agitated?” she thought to herself.
“Anything else you want to add?” Kevin inquired, his eyes showing a hint of expectation and longing that he himself didn’t notice.
“Nope,” Fernanda replied casually, dismissing the conversation with a wave. “Take care.”
“Just go!” Kevin snorted.
Once Fernanda had walked away, a teammate looked at Kevin, puzzled. “Why so tough on your sister? She seems kind and pretty nice.”
Kevin was unsure of his own irritation. Something about Fernanda’s strange expression had irked him.
Upon learning that he was the one leading their team, her expression was one of shock. Did she think him unworthy of the title? Was he really so disappointing in her eyes?
“Nice, huh?” Kevin muttered through clenched teeth. “What’s so great about her, anyway?”
“Why don’t you like her?” his teammate asked.
Kevin found himself speechless.
He struggled to explain his feelings.
“She’s not nice to me, that’s for sure!” Kevin shot back, his face flushing as he added, “Enough questions, let’s head back.” Yet his teammate continued, “Does your sister play video games?”
