Chapter 669
With a subtle, affirmative tilt of his head, Cristian accepted. “I’d like that.”
As Hunk announced the meeting’s onset, a cold stare pricked at Fernanda’s consciousness.
She glanced up to meet the cold eyes of Joselyn, Hunk’s wife, whose look was fraught with undisguised hostility.
Joselyn was seated third to the right of Hunk, a clear marker of her significant stake in the Ross Group. That day, she exuded the epitome of a formidable business leader, clad in a dark blue suit that was both elegant and commanding. She radiated authority and style.
Fernanda instantly understood that the root of Joselyn’s cold, hard stare was unmistakably linked to Ava, Joselyn’s beloved daughter. Seated regally in her oversized leather chair, Fernanda responded with a dazzling grin, her eyes shimmering with a cheeky glint of provocation.
Her smile, full of confidence and a hint of defiance, seemed to Joselyn like a clear jab.
Joselyn felt a prick of irritation bubble up within her.
With Ava sent abroad against her desires, Joselyn’s concern had morphed into a consuming obsession, distorting her judgment. She had been silently praying for Fernanda’s downfall, eager to seize any opportunity to retaliate against her.
Despite Fernanda’s numerous challenges, she had weathered them all with her dignity intact.
Now, even with Fernanda stripped of her status as Bobby’s fiancée, Joselyn hesitated to challenge her openly.
Rafael had been a letdown. Despite Joselyn’s insinuations to his mother about the grudges between Ava and Fernanda, no advantageous outcomes had arisen. Joselyn understood Rafael’s fiery temper well; his affection for Ava meant he would inevitably seek revenge for her. Indeed, he had made attempts, yet all had been in vain. As Fernanda continued to ascend in triumph, Joselyn’s frustration only deepened, her glares laced with increasing venom.
Out of nowhere, a file appeared in front of Fernanda.
Joselyn’s gaze followed the path of the file, finally resting on the hand that placed it. The hand belonged to Cristian, whose expression remained unreadable.
A flicker of disquiet washed over Joelyn for reasons she couldn’t fathom.
Cristian maintained a placid façade, steadfastly holding the file in front of Fernanda, neatly cutting off Joselyn’s venomous glare. Swiftly, Joselyn averted her eyes, fixating on the grand screen situated on the opposite wall.
Fernanda, appearing utterly composed, gracefully accepted the file, smoothly disengaging it from its position before her.
To anyone observing, it would appear Cristian was simply facilitating a mundane exchange of documents, oblivious to the fact that the file had served as a barrier against Joselyn’s scathing scrutiny.
“Joselyn seems to have quite a deep-seated grudge against you,” Cristian commented, his concern evident in his words.
“Indeed,” Fernanda sighed. “She’s in denial about her daughter’s faults, choosing instead to fault me for being stern. You know, motherhood isn’t merely a role—it’s an all-encompassing charge, and clearly, not everyone is suited for it,” she added, her words steeped in somber reflection.
