Chapter 322
Chapter 322:
Bobby reached out, flicking the boy’s forehead lightly. “You said it yourself—don’t mess up again p>
The boy nodded firmly, his face serious.
His grandmother stepped forward and ruffled his hair with a soft smile. “He’s learned his lesson. First thing this morning, he insisted on apologizing, especially to the young lady who saved him. He knows better now. I promise to guide him better from now on p>
Fernanda nodded in approval. She felt that the events had left an important impression on the boy. Though costly, the experience hadn’t been for nothing. Smiling, she rested her hand on his shoulder briefly, choosing not to say anything.
After bidding the boy farewell, the group turned and continued on their way.
“You know, that kid isn’t so bad after all,” Sloane remarked. “Troublemakers only act out because they’re spoiled and never face consequences for their actions. A little hardship straightens them out.” Her blunt honesty drew chuckles from everyone.
After a while, Wendy glanced at Bobby. “Are you sure you’re okay p>
All eyes shifted toward Bobby, whose complexion was unusually pale. Despite being bundled in a thick coat, he trembled uncontrollably.
“I’m fine, really,” he muttered, teeth chattering.
Fernanda frowned and remarked, “You’ve got a fever p>
After all, wearing so much and still feeling cold was clearly a sign of a fever. Wendy touched his forehead and nodded in agreement. “Yeah, you’re burning up p>
“Don’t worry about it.” Bobby grew uncomfortable under everyone’s gaze. Forcing a weak grin, he asked, “What? Why are you all staring at me? I’m fine! I already took something for the fever. I’ll probably be better by the time we arrive at the base p>
Jeff moved to Bobby’s side and spoke softly. “If you’re struggling, let me know. I’ll help you out p>
“Help? I don’t need help!” Bobby snapped, his voice sharp. “What, you think I can’t handle a little fever? Everyone’s had one since they were kids.” He refused to show any vulnerability, especially in front of Jeff. He was sure that if he did, both Wendy and Fernanda might lose respect for him.
Jeff noticed the tension from Bobby but chose not to dwell on it. He assumed it had something to do with Fernanda. Regardless, he stayed close, prepared to assist if Bobby’s energy gave out. The trail downhill was much easier, and they reached the cable car station within an hour.

Jeff volunteered to buy the tickets, an act that touched Bobby so much that he nearly teared up. For a moment, he thought they’d have to repeat yesterday’s grueling six-thousand-step descent.
The cable cars seated six, perfectly accommodating their group. Once inside, Bobby quickly sat between Fernanda and Wendy. Being under the weather felt like a good excuse to get closer to Wendy, and he even considered leaning on her shoulder. But as the cable car jerked during a line transition, Bobby snapped out of his thoughts.
With so many people around, he couldn’t risk it. Besides, he was technically Fernanda’s fiancé, even if it was just a title. He couldn’t afford to embarrass her.
Shifting his thoughts, he considered leaning against Fernanda instead—but then worried Wendy might get upset.
