Chapter 194
Chapter 194:
Alex nodded.
Gifford chuckled too, giving both of them a friendly pat on the shoulder.
It wasn’t until nearly seven in the morning that Neal was wheeled out of the operating room.
His body was covered in bandages, making him look like a mummy.
“Damn, they really did a number on him,” Alex said, his voice heavy with sympathy. His eyes reddened again. “How could they be so brutal? This is way too much p>
Gifford approached the nurse to inquire about Neal’s condition. She informed him that the bleeding had stopped, and he was no longer in immediate danger. However, he had two broken ribs and would need plenty of rest to recover.
“You can see him once he wakes up from the anesthesia, but keep it brief; he needs his rest,” the nurse added.
The three of them nodded, understanding the situation.
By around nine in the morning, Neal finally stirred and woke up. Without wasting a moment, the trio rushed into his room, their eyes fixed on him.
“Neal, who did this to you?” Alex demanded, his voice filled with concern and anger. “Tell me, and I’ll go make that person regret it p>
Neal blinked slowly, his eyes barely open. “I don’t know who did it.” His voice was dry, cracked—gone was the usual clarity and energy. Now it was weak and strained, making their hearts ache with every word.
“You don’t know?” Gifford asked, his brow furrowed. “You couldn’t even recognize them p>
“It was dark,” Neal murmured, his voice barely audible. “I couldn’t see clearly. My place is pretty isolated, and the security is lousy. There are a lot of shady characters around at night. I might’ve accidentally stepped on someone’s toes p>
“That’s some seriously bad luck. You’re telling me you got beat up for no reason at all?” Levi said, his expression darkening. “What will happen if they come after you again once you’re out of here p>

“They probably won’t come back,” Neal said, shaking his head. “Once is bad enough. Why would they do it again? And if they do, I’ll call the cops p>
After talking for a while, Gifford noticed how drained Neal seemed, and he suggested that Neal should rest some more. They could wait outside.
“You don’t need to stay here with me. Go back and get some sleep,” Neal said, his voice weak. “I know you didn’t sleep at all last night. I’m fine now. You can come see me later p>
Despite their reluctance, they couldn’t argue with Neal’s insistence.
“If you don’t go rest now, then don’t bother visiting. I don’t want to see you if you’re not well,” Neal said firmly.
“Let’s head back. If we’re not rested, how can we help him?” Gifford sighed, gently nudging Alex. “Besides, this is a hospital. He’s in good hands with the staff here p>
