Chapter 607
“Fine,” Erika sneered, her voice laced with contempt. “You deserve to be a homeless tramp. You’ll never measure up to me no matter how hard you try. You never belonged in this family. Do you even know who you are? Just a pawn. And once you’re no longer useful to Dad, you’ll be tossed aside like trash.”
“Okay,” Fernanda said, her voice flat. “If that’s what you think.”
Erika’s brow furrowed. Something was unsettling about Fernanda’s demeanor.
When had she become so passive? Despite all the words thrown at her, Fernanda didn’t even seem angry.
Then it dawned on Erika. With her engagement to Bobby ended, Fernanda had lost her edge. She was too afraid to stand up for herself now.
“Do you regret it?” Erika’s laugh rang out again. “Not that it matters—it’s far too late for that!”
“I don’t regret it,” Fernanda replied. “People should live for themselves.” Without another word, she took a step back and quietly closed the door.
On the other side, Erika’s laughter echoed, wild and unhinged, like someone who had completely lost their grip.
Fernanda pulled out her phone and pressed the stop button on the recording.
She then sat down at her desk, her fingers quickly tapping out a message to Rosita. “Got some explosive news for you. Interested?” Even though Bright Lights Media was officially on holiday, Fernanda knew Rosita’s relentless work ethic well. Rosita always stayed plugged into the latest trends, always ready to pounce on the next big story, no matter the time of year.
As expected, Rosita’s reply came almost instantly. “What’s the scoop?”
“Fernanda and Bobby are officially calling off their engagement. Think that’s juicy enough?”
No sooner had the message been sent than Rosita’s call came through. “Wait, what? Are you serious?” Rosita’s voice rang with disbelief.
Fernanda leaned back, a smirk tugging at her lips. “I don’t make things up.”
There was a brief pause before Rosita’s voice softened with a single question. “Why?”
“It’s just wrong,” Fernanda said with conviction. “What do you think this is? It’s some old-fashioned arrangement. If something doesn’t work, you need to move on.”
“Is that what your family thinks too?”
“They don’t,” Fernanda replied with a sly grin. “Which is why I’ve got even bigger news for you.”
“You’re incredible,” Rosita said with a grin. “I have a hunch that tomorrow could hit our entire month’s target.”
Fernanda chuckled. “Think bigger, Rosita. We’re hitting our quarterly target.”
Rosita’s laughter followed. “Alright, I’m starting a group chat.” She quickly set up the chat, adding only three members: Fernanda, Hamilton, and herself.
Hamilton was a driven young man, known for his serious work ethic. Both he and Rosita shared a relentless determination to get things done.
Because this kind of story had to remain under wraps until the official release, the three of them exchanged a few quick words before Fernanda sent over a recording she had just made.
