Chapter 147
Chapter 147:
“No,” Fernanda mumbled, still half-asleep.
She reached for her phone from the bedside table to check the time, but when the screen lit up, she saw a dozen missed calls. Instantly, she sat up, her mind racing into full alert.
All the missed calls were from Neal.
Fernanda tried calling back, but his phone had already been turned off.
She quickly threw on some clothes and headed over to Neal’s dorm.
It only took Fernanda a few minutes to get there.
Then, it clicked—Neal had mentioned the night before that he was going back to his rented place to lay low. So, she asked a student to help her get in touch with Levi and Alex.
Levi, clearly just awake, had sleep in his eyes, and his hair was all over the place.
“Hey, Fernanda. What’s going on?” he asked, still yawning.
“Did Neal try calling you guys p>
Levi looked confused. “I have no idea. I keep my phone on silent when I’m sleeping p>
Fernanda had her phone on silent too, so she’d missed Neal’s calls.
She explained, “He tried calling me more than ten times last night, but I missed every call. When I called back, his phone was off. I wanted to check if he reached out to you. Is everything okay p>
“Oh, got it,” Levi said, suddenly understanding, then chuckled and waved it off. “He’s probably been drinking. It’s a bit of a habit for him to call people after a few drinks. If no one picks up, he keeps calling. If they do, he just talks their ear off. We’re used to it by now p>
Fernanda finally relaxed, relieved that Neal wasn’t in any serious trouble.
“That’s a relief,” she said, feeling at ease.

Levi flashed a grin. “If Neal knew how worried you were about him p>
“He’d be happy. Don’t stress, he’ll be fine,” he reassured her.
“Glad to hear that,” Fernanda nodded. “I won’t keep you. Go back to sleep, and I’ve got a meeting to get to.” Levi gave an enthusiastic nod.
On her way back, Fernanda bumped into Wendy, who was coming back with breakfast.
“Oh, where’d you head off to?” she asked.
Fernanda quickly summarized the events of her morning.
Wendy was clearly taken aback. “Seriously? Neal actually has that kind of habit p>
“I didn’t expect it either. I thought maybe he was dealing with an emergency, and if that was the case, missing his calls could’ve been a big problem p>
“That’s not on you. Who picks up calls in the middle of the night, duh?” Wendy said, starting to unpack her breakfast.
