Her voice was icy, steady, unshakable. Mrs. Smith had never sounded so determined. Jenson and Milana hadn’t just hurt her today. They’d been chipping away at her heart for years. Decades, really. But today was the last straw. Jenson had threatened her with a knife, all for the company shares, and Milana had slapped her. Enough was enough.
Jenson had never seen her like this. He pressed his hand over his bleeding wound and dragged himself over, tears streaming down his face. “Mom, you can’t do this. I swear, I didn’t mean to hurt you. Milana was losing it too, desperate to speak up but trapped on her knees, pinned to the floor. She tried to talk, but all that came out were muffled, frantic sounds. She couldn’t even stand, let alone argue. Being disowned meant disaster. What would happen to them? What would happen to the company?
Mrs. Smith couldn’t look at Jenson anymore. His face, twisted with pain and fear, made her stomach turn. She looked away. “Get them out of my sight.”
Connor stepped in, his glare sharp and cold. “From now on, you have no connection to Mrs. Smith. If you ever come near her again, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
He turned to Aiden. “Take them outside.”
“Got it.”
Jenson started yelling, his voice cracking. “Who do you think you are? You’ve got no right to interfere in our family business! Let me go! Stop!”
He didn’t get to finish. Four men grabbed him and hauled him up, rough and unkind. The pain in his stomach shot through him, and blood started pouring from his wound. He tried to hold it back, but it was useless.
“Aah! I’m dying! You can’t do this to me! This is illegal!”
He landed outside the front gate with a hard thud. The pain nearly knocked him out. He lay there, gasping, furious. How could they treat him like this?
Moments later, Milana was thrown out too, her swollen face barely recognizable. She hit the ground with a cry, feeling like she might pass out.
“Milana… hurry, get me to a hospital,” Jenson groaned, his head spinning. If she didn’t move fast, he was sure he’d bleed out right there.
Milana stared at the blood, frozen for a second, but at least he was still breathing, still talking. Back inside, she’d been afraid he was already gone.
“I… I’ll take you now. Hold on.”
