Chapter 975

Lucinda slept through the night, but when she woke up, she was burning with a
fever. Cameron and Kylie wanted to take her to the hospital, but Lucinda refused, no matter what they said. Since Lydia had already left early that morning, there was nothing they could do but call a doctor to the house. He set up an IV drip for her in her room.
When Lydia came back, the whole house was focused on Lucinda. Caspian had called ahead to let Kylie know he was coming to check on Lucinda, so Kylie was waiting for him by the door.
“Caspian, hello,” Kylie greeted him.
“Aunt Kylie, how’s Lucinda doing?”
“Her fever just broke. Come on, I’ll take you upstairs.”
“Thanks,” Caspian said, following her. But as Kylie turned to lead the way, she caught sight of Lydia coming in.
She stopped and looked surprised. “Lydia? Weren’t you out with Connor today?”
Lydia just nodded. “I came back to grab something.”
“Do you need any help, sweetheart?”
“No, I’m just grabbing it from my room. I’ll be quick.”
“Alright then.”
Lydia headed upstairs first. Caspian was about to follow when Connor stepped inside from the front door. Kylie changed direction and went to greet him instead. “Connor, Lydia—what are your plans for today?” she asked, smiling.
Connor had overheard Lydia’s conversation with her mom. Since Lydia hadn’t mentioned anything about Luke, he decided not to bring it up either. He thought for a second before answering. “We’re planning to go to Southeast Asia for a couple of days.”
Kylie’s eyes widened. “Really?”
“Yeah,” Connor replied.
Kylie shook her head, half amused, half worried. “It’s beautiful out there, but I’ve heard the safety situation isn’t great. Promise me you’ll look after each other.” Official source ıs.net
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Norwood. I’ll take good care of her,” Connor said with a reassuring smile.
“We trust you,” Kylie said, her voice softening. “Lydia works too hard. It’s good for her to get away and have some fun while she’s on break.”
Their daughter always carried so much on her shoulders. She deserved a little time to breathe.
Meanwhile, Caspian was getting more anxious by the second. He’s desperate to check on Lucinda, butit didn’t feelright to just go upstairs by himself. He waited, shifting s weight from foot to foot.
Luckily, it wasn’t long before Lydia came back down with her bag. Kylie reminded her to be careful then Welled Lydia, and Connor outside and watched as they drove off. Only then did she finally turn to Caspian.
“Let’s go see Lucinda.”
Upstairs, Lucinda was lying in bed, looking so pale and fragile with the IV still taped to her hand. As soon as she saw Caspian come in, she pulled the blanket over her face, her voic muffled. Didn’t say I didn’t want you here? Why did you come?”
Kylie spoke gently. “Lucinda, Caspian was worried. He called me, wanted to know how you were doing, and asked if he could see you. That’s why I let him come.”
“I’m fine. He can go home,” Lucinda muttered, her voice thin. She coughed lightly, turning away from them.
Caspian looked at Kylie, hesitating. “Aunt Kylie, could I talk to Lucinda alone for a minute?”
Kylie paused, then nodded. “Of course.” She motioned for the maid to follow her out and quietly closed the door behind them.
Caspian walked over to the bed, but before he could get close, Lucinda’s voice stopped him. “Don’t come any closer. Just stay there.”
He froze, worry etched all over his face. “Lucinda, I was just worried. I wanted to see you.”
Lucinda’s breath caught, her voice trembling. “You already know I’m not really the Norwood family’s daughter. Why are you still here? Let’s just break up. We’re not right for each other.”
