He must have forgotten that he only got the Vice President job because Rose begged Kylie for it, crying her eyes out.
Rose had been waiting ages for Kylie to get back to her, and now she was getting seriously anxious. After hearing what Parker said, she just wanted to sit down and have a real conversation with Kylie. She needed to know if Kylie had secretly given Lydia the green light for everything. How could a seventeen-year-old girl have the guts to turn the whole company upside down on her own?
Meanwhile, Kylie was resting in the hospital’s family suite, with Cameron by her side. She told him everything-how Henry had been bothering Lydia, and about Lydia’s own suspicions. Cameron was furious. He looked like he was ready to go after Henry himself.
Seriously, Henry was nothing but trouble—lazy, unmotivated, bounced from girl to girl faster than he changed shirts. And he actually had the nerve to go after their precious daughter?
“Lydia did the right thing,” Cameron said firmly. “Let him sit in that cell and think about what he’s done.”
“What’s wrong with Parker and Rose?” he went on, pacing the room. “They raised a useless son and still act like he’s some kind of prize. And then they try to cover it all up? Unbelievable.”
Cameron was so worked up he just kept muttering to himself. He wanted to call Lydia but didn’t want to bother her. Their daughter had made it clear—she wanted to handle things herself. All she needed from them was support.
Kylie felt nothing but guilt. “This is all on me. I should have seen what kind of people they were. If I’d listened to you and looked into their family sooner, I would have figured out the truth a long time ago.”
Cameron pulled her in for a comforting hug. “Don’t blame yourself, honey. This is on them, not you.”
Just then, Kylie’s phone rang again. She glanced down. It was Rose.
Cameron caught the name on the screen and gave a sarcastic snort. “She’s got some nerve to call you right now.”
Kylie hesitated, then picked up. “Hello?”
Her voice was cool and distant, none of her usual warmth. Rose immediately picked
up on it, her heart skipping a beat.
Did Kylie already know everything?
“Kylie, I’m so sorry to bother you,” Rose started, her voice shaky. “Henry is terrified at the police station. As his mother, I just can’t I stand it If MS Norwood wont him go, could I take his place I’ll do anything to calm her down. I’ll stay in there a whole month if that’s what it takes, not just five days.”
She started sobbing softly as she spoke.
Kylie rolled her eyes in her mind. Rose was always like this. Every time she needed something, she’d put on the waterworks, and every time, it had worked. Kylie honestly wished she could go back and shake some sense into her old self.
“Rose, Henry assaulted a girl, and
the evidence is right there. Five days is more than fair,” Kylie said, her voice sharp with anger “YOU begging me won’t change anything. If I hadn’t gone to ask Lydia to let him off, I never would have found out the truth. Rose, I can’t tell you how disappointed I am.”
If it weren’t for all their years of friendship, Kylie would have gladly let Henry rot in
there for fifty days, not just five. Even that wouldn’t be enough to get rid of her anger.
Rose’s heart dropped. She knew it. That little troublemaker Lydia must have poisoned Kylie against her son.
“Kylie, you’ve got it all wrong!” Rose pleaded. “Lydia is lying. Henry never even touched her. She threatened him with his job, tried to force him to quit, and when he refused she got her police friends to twist the facts and have him locked up. She’s a liar, Kylie, a total fraud. Please, don’t let her fool you!”
