Chapter 32

Samuel nodded and headed off to check in on Mr. Norwood first. As he got closer to the room, he caught snippets of the maids whispering to each other.
“Did you see what Miss Norwood did? She’s so young, but her acupuncture is incredible. She brought Mr. Norwood back in just fifteen minutes.”
“I know, I was shocked too. Makes you wonder, who’s better at medicine, Miss Norwood or Garrett?”
“We’ll know for sure once Garrett gets home.”
Cameron cleared his throat, and the maids, who had been carefully polishing some expensive porcelain, spun around in a panic. They apologized at once, barely daring
to look up.
“Go to the living room and get some tea and snacks ready,” Cameron told them.
“Yes, sir!”
They hurried off. Samuel glanced at Cameron, looking puzzled. “Cameron, what were they talking about just now?”
Samuel was familiar with Lucinda. She didn’t have any skill in medicine, and her grades were nothing special. She had some talents, but those had all been polished with the help of Cameron and Kylie’s money.
Meanwhile, Kylie couldn’t hide her pride when she heard the gossip about her daughter. The maids might have been talking behind their hands, but to her, their words were music.
“They were talking about Lydia,” Kylie said with a soft smile. “My real daughter.” Samuel nodded, and even though he’d half expected it, he was still surprised. So Lydia, who had just come back, was that impressive?
Cameron felt the same way. As they walked, he shared with Samuel how Lydia had treated Mr. Norwood. Samuel had met all kinds of people in his life, but he had never heard of an eighteen-year-old girl with such incredible medical skills. It was almost like she had brought someone back from the edge.
He was even more eager to meet Lydia now. Deep down, he thought, this is exactly the kind of girl my grandson should marry. Someone with real ability. Compared to her, Lucinda was just a pretty face, and worse, she had a serious princess attitude.
Mr. Norwood was still pale and tired from his earlier attack. Lucinda sat by his bed, tears in her eyes as she blamed herself. “I’m sorry, Grandpa. If it weren’t for me, your illness wouldn’t have acted up. It’s all my fault.”
But her words carried another meaning. If Lydia hadn’t upset Grandpa, none of this would have happened. In other words, it was all Lydia’s fault.
As expected, Mr. Norwood let out a sigh and patted her hand, trying to comfort her. “Lucinda, if your sister were even half as thoughtful as you, I’d be so happy.”
Lucinda wiped her eyes and sniffled. “Grandpa, don’t say that. Lydia is great too. If it wasn’t for her today
“If it wasn’t for her, my heart wouldn’t have acted up in the first place,” he cut her off. “Anyway, let’s not talk about this. No matter what happens, Lucinda, you’ll always have your place here. Even though she’s back, you’re still the Norwood family’s most beloved little princess.”
Lucinda started crying even harder, but inside, she was secretly pleased.
See, Lydia? It doesn’t matter how good you are at medicine. Grandpa will always pick me.
A voice suddenly rang out from the doorway. “Wayne, you’re just making things harder on yourself by refusing to face reality.” ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ ~net
Mr. Norwood and Lucinda both froze, completely caught off guard. They hadn’t heard a word about Samuel coming over.
