Chapter 41
“Boss, the informants say her security is next-level. They need more time.”
Aiden was getting more and more curious. Who was this girl who had saved Connor? If even the four best informants couldn’t dig her up, she must be something special.
Connor’s cold gaze landed on Aiden, making him feel the pressure. He knew exactly what that look meant. Connor thought they were all useless, messing up something this simple. Trying to redeem himself, Aiden pressed on. “But, the informants did mention there’s another way. If you don’t want to wait, we can get her info right away.”
Connor’s eyes narrowed. “Let Austin handle it?”
Aiden nodded. “Yes, Boss. Austin built the platform. The backend has all the registration info on every user. If he’s willing to help, we’ll know exactly who ‘Chief Lydia’ really is.”
Plus, Austin was a tech genius, always on guard when it came to his platform’s security. Even the top informants couldn’t break into his database. If Austin decided to help, their problem would be solved in no time.
Connor frowned. He and Austin were on good terms, but asking a buddy for help tracking down a girl just felt… pathetic. The last thing he needed was his friend teasing him about it.
“Give the informants two more days. If they still can’t find her, tell them to quit and save themselves the embarrassment.”
The top four informants, huh? Couldn’t even figure out a girl’s identity. Ridiculous. Aiden silently lit a candle for the informants in his mind and nodded. “Yes, Boss.” Connor waved him off.
Aiden hesitated before turning to go. “Boss, about that guy from the internet today, the one named C. Lambert. We’ve figured out who he is. Jerome Lambert, only son of the chairman of Millstone Construction in the capital. I called his father, but he didn’t seem to care.” Updates are released by
Connor gave a cold laugh. “He doesn’t care? Make him care.”
“Yes, Boss!”
At exactly ten o’clock, ‘Chief Lydia’—the influencer with thirty million fans-finally started her livestream to let everyone know she was okay.
As soon as the stream went live, the viewer count shot up from zero to thousands, then tens of thousands. In just three minutes, it was well over a hundred thousand. People online were freaking out. Chief Lydia’s popularity was unreal.
Connor had been waiting, phone in hand. The second her profile showed she was live, he tapped in.
The camera showed a pale pink curtain and a spotless white desk. The whole vibe was clean and inviting, with a hint of girlish romance. Chief Lydia wasn’t showing her face, but Connor couldn’t help picturing her as a beautiful, interesting girl.
The comment section was going wild.
[Is that really you, Chief Lydia?]
[Wow, those curtains are so pretty. I love the color.]
[Chief Lydia, can we see what you look like? I’m so curious!]
[Chief Lydia must be gorgeous, right?]
Of course, there were skeptics too.
[Are you actually Chief Lydia? Or did something happen to her and you’re just using this account for views?]
[Exactly! We don’t know what she looks like, but we know her voice and her medical skills. You can’t trick us.]
[We just want the truth.]
Connor typed into the chat. [We want to see the real Chief Lydia.]
Almost instantly, someone picked up his comment and ran with it.
[Whoa, CNR’s here too! He’s right, we want to see the real Chief Lydia!]
[We want to see the real Chief Lydia!]
[We want to see the real Chief Lydia!]
Lydia had been quietly watching the comment section this whole time. Finally, she spoke up. “Good evening, everyone. I’m Chief Lydia. Thanks for caring about me. I’m really okay.”
