Lydia. She was the Chief Lydia he had been searching for all along.
Lydia, Chief Lydia… The names echoed in his mind. Thinking back on everything he had done these past few days, Connor could have kicked himself.
Yesterday morning, when Lydia came to the hospital to check up on him, he actually slipped away. What was wrong with him? Was he out of his mind? He had missed the perfect chance to see her.
No wonder she ignored his messages all day. No wonder, when she walked in just now, she didn’t even look his way. Was she mad at him?
Connor had never felt so dumb in his life. He hadn’t figured out who she really was, and on top of that, he’d let that brat Chris get close to her. That was just unacceptable.
He was about to go after them when Mr. Jefferson’s cheerful voice rang out. “I didn’t expect Lydia and Chris to get along so well. They’re about the same age, and they even have similar interests. Cameron, Kylie, you should talk to Lydia. If she likes Chris, let’s make it official. If she thinks Chris is too childish, Mikey would be a good choice too.”
Either way, as long as Lydia married one of his grandsons, she’d be his granddaughter-in-law. But he needed to settle things soon. Lydia was too outstanding. What if someone else snatched her away?
Mr. Jefferson’s words left no doubt. Connor was out of the running.
Lucinda could barely contain her excitement. This was perfect. Now, Connor and Lydia would have nothing to do with each other. She always knew Connor would never fall for a small-town girl like Lydia. Connor’s heart belonged to Lucinda. He was just cold and quiet, not the type to express how he felt. That was fine. She could make the first move.
Right then, Lucinda was already picturing her wedding with Connor and their sweet life together.
Cameron and Kylie nodded a little. Judging from what Connor had said earlier, he clearly wasn’t interested in Lydia. That meant Lydia would have to pick between Mikey and Chris.
“Of course, Samuel. We’ll talk to Lydia tomorrow. Whoever she chooses, as long as she’s happy, we’ll support her.”

Everyone turned to him, confused. Mr. Jefferson narrowed his eyes, lowering his voice like a warning. “Connor, stay out of this.”
He didn’t need to spell it out. This wasn’t Connor’s business, so he should keep quiet.
But then something unexpected happened. Connor’s usual cold expression softened, and the
corners of his mouth even lifted in a faint smile. “I don’t think either of

for himself, but he didn’t want his brothers to have her either?
Did he think they were that desperate to marry off their daughter? Honestly, if it weren’t for the family agreement, they wouldn’t even consider letting her go.
Mr. Jefferson, was furious. If the Norwood family wasn’t right there, he would have whacked Connor with his cane already. This troublemaker. He didn’t want to marry her, and now he wouldn’t let his brothers do it either? Was he trying to ruin the whole engagement?
