Chapter 528

The phone was on speaker, so everyone heard the offer. Milana’s heart sank. She was so angry she almost passed out right then.
“You… you people… this is too much.”
Jenson was furious too, gripping his phone so hard his knuckles turned white. This so-called famous pawnshop in the Capital was a total joke!
“How is this not the same as daylight robbery?” he snapped.
Juna’s voice drifted through the phone, cool and careless. “I’m just running a business. You want to pawn it, fine. If not, you’re free to leave. No one is robbing you.”
Milana had already thought forty million was low, but now they were dropping it to twenty. She felt like she’d been pushed off a cliff.
“There’s nothing left to say. Jenson, let’s go. There’s no way this is the only pawnshop in a city this big,” Milana said, her voice trembling with anger.
Juna sounded bored. “Think it through. If you walk out now and come back later, the offer will be ten million. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. That’s it, I’m hanging up.”
The line went dead. Milana and Jenson had already turned to leave, but now they just stood there, frozen.
Sandy rushed over, lowering her voice. “Dad, Mom, pawnshops are all kind of shady, right? If this one’s dropping the price, the others might too.”
Jenson and Milana just stared at the door. Should they leave, or should they stay? They couldn’t decide.
“But… this price is just ridiculous,”
Milana muttered, her voice thick with regret. If only she’d agreed to forty million the first time. Now they were stuck with half that. It was basically giving it away. Fortune Pawnshop didn’t care about its customers at all. Milana was so angry she felt like she was going to burst.
Jenson clenched his jaw and looked at Milana. “Honey, the company needs the money right now. Let’s just do it.”
Milana felt like she couldn’t breathe. This place was a scam. If they weren’t so desperate, she would have thought someone was out to get them on purpose.

While Milana fumed, Jenson
handled the paperwork. Before long,
twenty million hit their account.
Jenson let out a long breath. It
wasn’t enough to fix everything but
at least it would cover their
immediate problems.
The three of them headed straight for Smith Corporation. The lobby looked even worse than expected. With business tanking and salaries unpaid, most of the cleaning staff had quit. No one was left to do any tidying.
Milana’s temper snapped. She stormed in and shouted, “Where are the cleaners? The lobby is the face of the company. How can nobody be taking care of it?”
Only one receptionist was left, a girl fresh out of college named Wendy. She hurried over, looking nervous. “Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith, there’s just one janitor left, and she called in sick today.”
Milana glared at her. “She’s not here, so you couldn’t clean up yourself? This is your responsibility, isn’t it?”
Wendy’s face turned red. She’d
spent her whole morning calming down reporters and business partners, running around serving tea and water, barely catching her breath. Now, after all that denson and Milana finally showed up and started yelling at her instead of even noticing her efforts.
Her heart sank. If she wasn’t so grateful that the company gave her a shot as a new
grad, she would have quit a long time ago.
