Chapter 212

Chris was practically bouncing with impatience. He turned to Lydia and pleaded, “Lyds, come on. Maybe we can grab a ride together sometime?”
His teammates had been pestering him every day, hoping Lydia would come coach them.
“She’s your ‘sister-in-law’,” Connor said, his tone icy.
Chris rolled his eyes but gave in. “Alright, my awesome sister-in-law, please have my phone number. I’m begging you.”
Everyone stared in shock.
Was this really happening? The family’s notorious troublemaker, actually begging Lydia for a phone number? It was almost unbelievable. Chris was always so proud, usually ignoring everyone and doing his own thing.
Lydia couldn’t help but laugh and brought out her phone.
Connor turned away, looking annoyed. He was clearly jealous.
Why did she have to have Chris’ number at all?
Chris finally got Lydia’s contact and grinned so wide he looked like he’d won the lottery. “So, when are you free? My teammates are dying to meet you. Please, just give us a chance?”
At this point, Lydia was basically their idol.
Before Lydia could answer, Connor cut in, voice cold. “Your sister-in-law is super busy. She barely has time to rest. Stop bothering her.”
Chris pouted but, faced with Connor’s glare, shut his mouth. He figured he could just message Lydia later. His brother couldn’t be watching him every minute.
Lydia thought for a moment. “I’m kind of swamped these next couple of days. Maybe we can talk about it later.”
Chris nodded eagerly. “Yeah, sure, no problem.”
They were still joking around when a guard rushed in. “Sir, Miss Lucinda is here to see you.”
The mood in the living room shifted in an instant.
Connor’s face darkened. “What’s she doing here?”
Lydia raised an eyebrow. Lucinda really didn’t give up easily.
Mr. Jefferson paused, thinking it over before saying, “Let her in.”
She was already here anyway. If he refused, Wayne would probably have something to say about it later.
A moment later, Lucinda walked in, carrying a fancy fruit basket and some gifts.
She took one look at Lydia

“Grandpa Samuel, how are you feeling? My parents and I were so worried when we heard you weren’t well.”
She handed the gifts to a servant and hurried over, her face all concern.
Mr. Jefferson chuckled. “Lydia already gave me some medicine. It’s nothing serious, but thank you for worrying about me.”
Lydia was sitting with Mr. Jefferson,
while Connor and Chris were on

She hadn’t even finished when Connor got up and moved to sit by Chris, leaving Lucinda sitting there, looking completely awkward.
Everyone noticed, but nobody commented.
Mr. Jefferson smiled. “Don’t worry, I’m strong as ever. Lydia already brought a pile of gifts, so why did you bring more?”
Lydia had made it clear the gifts she brought were from her parents, so what was Lucinda trying to say by bringing her own?
Lucinda had clearly prepared for this.
She flashed a sweet smile and said,
with a hint of a pout, “I actually wanted to come with my sister, but… she and Connor were coming together, and didn’t want to intrude. Still, I was so worried about you that I followed along behind them. Grandpa Samuel, I hope you don’t mind me showing up uninvited?”
