Right after Henry was escorted out, Lydia’s phone buzzed with a new message. Captain Mitch: Lydia, if you ever need anything, just say so.
A small smile played on her lips as she replied, Thank you. I appreciate it.
Honestly, she had already called the police online the moment Henry started banging on her door.
She hadn’t even put her phone down when a message from Kylie popped up. It was a news link. Lydia clicked on it without thinking.
The screen filled with an official interview clip from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responding to the Country D Embassy.
After confirming the facts, our citizen did not insult any Country D nationals. Regarding Ambassador Charlie, due to his corruption and repeated slander against our nation, he has been sent back to his country for further investigation and punishment.
Lydia grinned, feeling a little vindicated. Kylie sent over two more video clips.
One was a heated argument between Neil and Chris. The other showed Lydia putting Neil and his friends in their place. Both videos were blowing up online, trending in the top three.
Kylie followed up with an excited voice message. “Lydia, are you busy? Have you seen the news today? Everyone’s talking about how patriotic and brave you are, and how talented too. People are even calling you the Biker Queen. Mom is seriously so proud of you!”
Lydia texted back, Just watching now, and sent a heart emoji.
Almost immediately, Connor messaged her too.

Lydia rolled her eyes. She typed back, [At work.]
Connor couldn’t help but laugh when he saw her reply.
[Your moves were awesome, by the way. Next time, let me join in.]
Lydia just replied with an eyeroll.
Connor sent another message. [But seriously, no more bets that involve taking off your clothes.]
He was fuming just thinking about those three idiots who had tried to mess with Lydia. They had no idea what was waiting for them back in Country D. He would make sure they never forgot it.
Lydia shot back, [Don’t you have anything better to do?]
Connor replied, [Nope. I’m busy. Busy thinking about you. Can’t focus on anything else.]
Lydia answered with another eyeroll.
Connor was never one for sweet talk. Usually, he was cold, blunt, and said as little as possible. But ever since Lydia had come into his life, he just wanted to let his guard down around her.
Last night, after he got back to the Jefferson house from the hospital, his grandfather Mikey and Chris had basically staged an intervention First, they called him out, then they each took turns giving him advice on how to win a girl’s heart.

Chris, the youngest, added,
“Honestly, Lydia and I get along pretty well. If you hadn’t changed your mind at the last minute… never mind. Anyway, you should lear what young people like try to find things you and Lydia both enjoy. Like motorcycles. We both love them.”
Through all of this, Connor just took it. For Lydia, it was worth it.
