Chapter 971

Aiden’s reminder finally clicked for Josh. That’s why Connor seemed so familiar. Crap! Wasn’t this Connor Jefferson, the guy everyone secretly called the Grim Reaper? Damn. Why did he show up now, and looking like he meant business?
“Oh, Mr. Jefferson, I’m so sorry, I didn’t recognize you right away,” Josh gushed, slapping on a wide grin, bowing so low it looked painful. “Is there something you need from our boss? I’ll go tell him right away.”
Lydia’s voice cut through the air, cool and sharp. “Two days ago, around five in the afternoon, one of his men lured a boy away near Liberty High. Tell your boss to hand the kid over. Now.”
Josh’s face went pale. For a second, it looked like his knees might give out. “Miss, our boss only runs legit businesses. Kidnapping? That’s not us. You must be mistaken!”
He shot a desperate look at Connor, panic written all over his face. “Sir, you can check anything you want. We keep everything legal. Even the casinos only run in Las Vegas. We’d never dare break the law. Whatever this lady’s talking about, it’s got nothing to do with us.”
Connor’s gaze darkened. Without warning, Aiden strode forward, grabbed Josh’s arm, and twisted it back hard. Josh let out a scream. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ.net
“Connor, please, have mercy! Even if you break both my arms, I swear, we have nothing to do with this!” Josh wailed.
Lydia gave a cold snort. “Of course you’d never admit it. Call your boss. If he doesn’t hand the boy over today, I’ll tear this place down and use the bricks for firewood.”
Josh was sweating buckets, the pain making his voice tremble. “Ma’am, I know you’re worried, but we really don’t do anything illegal. Even if we wanted to help, we can’t.”
Aiden just twisted harder. Josh nearly blacked out, dropping to his knees.
“I… I can call my boss. I’ll ask if he knows anyone who’d do something like that.”
Lydia stepped closer, her smile icy. “You really are your boss’ loyal servant, aren’t you? Always ready to cover for him.”.
This manager was slippery, always finding a way to dodge trouble. Josh kept up his good guy routine Miss really, my boss is a boss is a good man. He treats us workers well.”
Lydia just rolled her eyes. “Enough. Make the call.”
Aiden let go. Josh wiped the sweat from his forehead, scrambling to his feet. He straightened his clothes, the glanced at Connor and Lydia respectful as could be We do honest business here. It’s not really safe to talk out here. Let’s go inside.”
Lydia nodded. “Alright.”
Josh quickly found a private room, opened the door, and ordered someone to bring in fruit and tea.
Lydia didn’t even look at the refreshments. “Forget it. Just call your boss.”
Josh nodded, forcing a shaky smile. “Right away. I’m calling right now.”
