Chapter 421
Rex
My hands are shaking as I lie down on the cold ground. I want to go back to the community; I don’t want to be here anymore. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to go through.
I knew it was going to be a challenge but I could have surged through this if I had Blue and Gyles with me. Being alone is the only thing that is making this hard. I want to hold them; I want to know that they are with me. I am resting on my back; the moon is the only view I have.
I have lost track of the days. I don’t know how long it has been.
It feels like forever. I am tired of this; I want it to be over. The only thing I can do is hope and pray for better.
I hear a screech. I don’t know if it is the wind or a bird. I don’t know if anything is real.
I see a light, it’s the moon. I see a figure walking towards me. Slowly, it is getting closer and closer. It is a woman. Her hair is long and jet black, a kind of beauty that I have never seen. She is wearing a dress.
It is white and it flows with the wind. She is like a goddess, like an angel. She is smiling. It is the most amazing smile I have ever seen. I am in awe of the sight in front of me.
“My favorite child,’’ she sings so beautifully that my heart begins to race.
“My Rex,’’ she says as she walks towards me.
“My Rex,’’ she repeats. It is like she is pulling me in with her voice. I am falling into her. “You shine so brightly. You are like the moon; you are like the sun. You are the light. You are the one who shines so brightly. You are the light of my life.’’
She is speaking to me. She is speaking like I am her child and my heart responds to her every word. Just a few words and I feel special, I feel loved by this woman that I don’t even know.
“Who are you?’’ I ask her because I don’t even know if this is just another part of the punishment.
She is the most beautiful woman I have seen and she smells like a rose.
“I am Selene.’’
The minute I hear her name, I know who she is. I have read so many books about her, there have been so many stories told. There was a time I didn’t even believe she was real. She was just something we believed in. Something that made being a werewolf easier.
She has always been our rock.
And she is here now.
I sit up immediately because I want to be strong in front of her.
Her smile widens.
“You are strong. You are the strongest of my children. I raised you. I have seen you grow. I have seen you fight and I have seen you prevail. I am proud of you.’’
I don’t know what to say.
I have never felt this honored before even though I don’t feel the way she sees me. I haven’t done anything in my life. I have always been a coward, the weak omega that had to stick to Beau to survive.
She kneels down in front of me and takes my face in her hands. Her touch is so soft and gentle.
“I am not strong,’’ I tell her because I don’t know what she sees in me.
“Oh, but you are, I have seen your heart and it is bigger than anything. You are here because of your mates even though you didn’t make the mistake that brought you all here. You took the punishment because of the love you have for them.”
I feel a tear roll down my cheek.
“You are strong. You have been through so much. You have been the bravest werewolf I have ever known.’’
It is hard for me to believe that. I don’t feel strong. I don’t have words because this is overwhelming. I didn’t know that I needed this validation, it is almost like hearing her say these words to me is comforting.
It is cleansing.
“You are the light of my life. You have shined so brightly that I have seen you even when I wasn’t around you. I have seen the light that you bring to this world and I will never let that light dimmer.”
There is a moment of silence. The wind is the only thing that can be heard.
“I have seen you with your mates and it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.” She raises her other hand up and I see a vial with a blue liquid.
“This will bring your mates back to you. It has been a hard time for you. But it is almost over. I am here with you and I will never leave your side. You are my favorite child and I will always be with you.”
She puts the vial to my lips and I drink it. It doesn’t take long before I feel a familiar warmth spreading through my body. I close my eyes and I feel my heart beating again. I feel my body and I am alive.
I open my eyes and I see Blue and Gyles.
I am crying so hard. I can’t believe they are here. I can’t believe they are alive. They are in front of me, they are real, they are alive. I touch my hand to Blue’s face and I feel his warm skin. I touch my hand to Gyles’s face and I feel his warm skin. I am so happy. I am so filled with joy I can’t help but kiss them. I kiss Blue and he kisses me back. I kiss Gyles and he kisses me back.
My heart is so full.
“We are here,’’ they tell me.
They are here. They are really here. They are alive and they are with me.
I look around for Selene but she is gone. we are alone in the cave, but we are together.
we are together and we are happy.
Never settle for anything less than what you deserve.
those words are in my head but I know that they are from Selene. In just a short time, she made me feel so special.
