The minute El walks through those doors, I jump up from my seat and run over to the front door of the house. He looks up at me and there is a worried expression on his face “Is anyone hurt?’’ he asks immediately.
He came here in less than thirty minutes. I am sure he could sense the worry from my call. El is good at sensing things. He knows when something is wrong. He can see things that none of us can. So he should be able to get into Jabi’s head.
He should be able to tell me the things that I don’t know.
The things that Jabi can’t remember.
“No, but I need you to go into Jabi’s head. Something happened today. He sent me a mind link and somehow, he can’t remember sending it to me.’’
He furrows his brows “That’s not possible. Are you sure about that?’’
“Yes, he did it and sent it to me. I know he did, I could feel him and I knew someone was hurting him.”
“Someone, did he tell you who it was?’’
There is no debating. I know Lenny did something to him. So I tell him everything that has happened so far. The fact that we let a vampire into our home, into our life. Someone that we didn’t know and I am ashamed to even tell him this because I should have known better.
I know the kind of life we have. I know how dangerous being a vampire is. There are people out there that would want to hurt us, kill us, and I let Lenny into my home because I wanted to make Jabi happy.
I was weak at that moment and I didn’t act as a protector. I was using my heart to think instead of my head and that is so unlike me.
I should have known fucking better.
I tell him everything. He listens intently.
He doesn’t look as concerned as he should be.
“Who is this vampire and what does he want?’’
I shrug because I actually don’t know what he wants from Jabi. All I know is that he is here and he wants to hurt Jabi.
“I don’t know, El. I don’t know what the vampire wants. I don’t know what he was going to do to Jabi. It doesn’t make sense to me, but whatever it is, I just want to stop it.’’
He nods and I see the look on his face, the one that makes me calm down a little bit.
“Okay, I will check it out. I will see what I can find,’’ he reaches for me and rests his hand on my shoulder.
I take a deep breath because this is a lot for me to deal with and I just need the affirmations to make me stop him. Once I find out that he tried to hurt Jabi, then I will deal with it the way that I know how to.
Eligio walks with me to the living room and Jabi stands up from the couch. His eyes are on me as El walks over to him.
“Hi Jabi,’’ he smiles at my mate.
I watch them as he asks him some questions and I watch him as he answers them. He doesn’t know what happened. His memory seems fine. He remembers everything that happened between him and Lenny.
He doesn’t remember sending me a mind link.
“I know what you sent me. I remember it.’’ I interrupt him because I just need him to believe that this is all not in my head. He is looking at me like I am crazy and I know that I am not crazy.
“I know. I believe you. I just don’t know why I can’t remember,’’ he manages as his eyes shift to me.
At the end of the day, I am the reason why this is happening, so I can’t blame Jabi for anything.
“Something has happened and we will figure it out. I just need you to calm down.’ Eligio tells me calmly.
It is easier said than done. I mean, how can I calm down when I feel like I am about to lose my mind. If the mind link was all in my head, then why did I feel him in pain? I know what I felt and even though he can’t remember we are connected and I am here to remember for him.
“Okay, can you just get this over with,” I tell El because I hate waiting and right now I am impatient about this whole mess.
“Okay, come on. I want you to sit down.” he directs his demand to Jabi, who obeys immediately.
I take a deep breath as I watch him obey my brother “So whatever I search for, has to be in your head. Whatever I see is all from you.’’ he tells him as he reaches forward and rests his hands on Jabi’s temple. The room is quiet, the only sounds come from our breathing. Even though I am watching this moment, I can’t see anything.
“I want you to focus on my hands on you, don’t think about anything else. Let me inside your head right now.’’
I watch them but when Eligio tells him to search, I feel everything.
The pain that he felt.
The tears that he cried.
The memories that he has.
The fear.
I see the scene that I wanted to remember. The conversation that they had. I watch Lenny as he comes close to Jabi and reaches for him. It seems like it is my memory and not Jabi’s. I don’t know what is happening but I see it all.
I watch Jabi as he begs.
Frozen in place.
I see Lenny’s hands on my mate. I see him as he takes his blood over the mark that I gave him. The one thing that was supposed to be sacred.
The violation.
My fucking mark.
I see it all and all I want to do is fucking kill him.
