Chapter 103:
The brutal reality of his words hit her like a sledgehammer. Her meager savings account was absolutely nothing against his limitless capital. He had used his wealth to completely annihilate her independence.
Tears of pure frustration burned in her eyes. “Why are you doing this?” she whispered, her voice cracking. “Why do you have to destroy every single piece of my private life?”
Jarrod looked at the tears pooling in her gray eyes. The cold, ruthless mask on his face cracked. A flash of raw, desperate pain bled into his expression.
He let go of her wrists and brought his large hands down to cup her face, his thumbs gently stroking her cheekbones.
“Because you are out there alone,” Jarrod said, his voice dropping to a harsh, ragged whisper. “Because there is a professional killer hunting you. Because your so-called ‘private life’ is a glass house, and I cannot protect you when you are not with me.”
“I survived an assassin in my own hospital!” Caroline argued, a tear slipping down her cheek. “I can take care of myself! I don’t need you to lock me in a cage!” The very walls felt like they were closing in on her, his sheer wealth and power forming an invisible prison she couldn’t punch her way out of.
Jarrod’s eyes darkened. He slid his arms around her waist and yanked her forward, crushing her body flush against his chest.
“I will not allow my wife to sleep in a building with a broken security camera,” Jarrod growled, his jaw locked tight. “That is not up for negotiation.”

He leaned his forehead against hers and delivered his final, absolute ultimatum.
“You have two choices,” Jarrod whispered. “You move into my penthouse tonight. Or you sleep on the streets of Washington.”
Caroline closed her eyes. She felt the heavy, frantic beating of his heart against her own chest. She was completely trapped. He had cut off every single escape route.
But the most terrifying part wasn’t his control. It was the dark, hidden part of her soul that felt a massive wave of relief. She was exhausted from running. She was exhausted from fighting him.
She let her head fall forward, resting her forehead against his shoulder. All the fight drained out of her muscles.
“You win,” Caroline whispered. The words tasted like defeat, but felt like surrender.
Jarrod let out a long, shuddering sigh. The rigid tension in his massive body completely dissolved. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, burying his face in her hair.
He turned his head and pressed his lips against her cheek, gently kissing away the salty tear.
“You can have everything I own, Caroline,” Jarrod murmured against her skin, his voice thick with a dark, bloody devotion. “You can have my money. You can have my power. You can have my life. Just do not leave my sight.”
The sheer intensity of his confession made her heart skip a violent beat. She wrapped her arms around his waist and held on tight.
Jarrod pulled back and looked at the heavy Patek Philippe watch on his wrist. The soft, vulnerable moment vanished, replaced instantly by the cold commander.
