Chapter 314:
K.C. snapped out of his shock. His face turned completely ashen, drained of all blood. He violently roared at Dr. Reed to drop the needle immediately.
He commanded everyone in the room to step exactly five feet away from the bed. He ordered them not to touch a single hair on her head.
Hayes blinked in confusion. He asked for clarification, completely thrown by the sudden 180-degree change in the intelligence operative’s cold demeanor.
K.C. ignored the captain completely. He turned on his heel and sprinted out of the swinging double doors, abandoning all military decorum.
He ran down the medical bay corridor at a full sprint. His heavy boots skidded dangerously on the polished corners as he pushed his speed to the limit.
He burst out of the medical building into the freezing rain. He ignored the howling storm entirely as he headed straight toward the training sector.
He ran frantically across the dark compound. His breath plumed in the cold night air, his chest heaving with exertion and pure terror.
He headed straight toward the highly classified communications command center. He reached the heavy steel doors and slammed his palm violently against the biometric scanner panel.

The heavy doors hissed open. K.C. jogged into the server room, completely bypassing the standard security checkpoints and metal detectors. He shoved a stunned technician out of his chair and immediately initiated a top-tier emergency protocol.
His fingers flew across the keyboard, forcing a secure connection to pierce directly through the heavy electronic jamming of the active Middle Eastern war zone.
Thousands of miles away, inside a dusty, fortified command tent, Colonel Jarrod Romero stood by a metal table. He was surrounded by three high-ranking lieutenants. They were actively discussing the flawed entry angles of their upcoming hostile extraction.
His face was a mask of cold, terrifying authority. His massive body still radiated the lethal adrenaline of the combat zone.
The secure monitor on the wall suddenly flared to life, cutting off the encrypted satellite feed. The lieutenants turned around. They looked highly annoyed by the sudden, noisy interruption from the intelligence officer on the screen.
Jarrod didn’t even look up from the topographical maps spread on the table. He coldly warned K.C. over the audio link that he’d better have a damn good reason for breaking a blackout protocol.
K.C. stared into the camera. He struggled to catch his breath, his eyes locked onto his commanding officer. He completely disregarded the lieutenants. He stated directly to Jarrod that there was a critical situation at the domestic base’s medical bay.
Jarrod finally looked up. His dark eyes narrowed in deep irritation. He asked why civilian medical issues were interrupting a classified war zone operation.
K.C. swallowed hard. He leaned closer to his microphone, lowering his voice so the audio picked up his absolute dread. He stated two words: “It’s Caroline.”
For a split second, absolute silence descended on the command tent. Jarrod’s entire body went completely rigid, as if struck by lightning.
The tactical blueprints slipped from Jarrod’s hands. They fluttered slowly to the dirt floor, completely forgotten.
