Chapter 234:
“Go ahead,” Jarrod taunted softly. “This glass is military-grade, soundproofed to withstand a bomb blast. The walls are reinforced concrete. You could scream until your throat bleeds, and no one outside this room would hear a single sound.”
To prove his absolute control, Jarrod leaned in.
He opened his mouth and closed his teeth gently over her left earlobe.
He didn’t bite hard enough to break the skin. He just scraped his teeth against the sensitive nerve endings — a slow, deliberate claiming.
A massive jolt shot from her ear straight down to her toes. Caroline’s knees instantly buckled. Her mouth fell open, and a short, breathless gasp escaped her lips.

Jarrod’s eyes darkened triumphantly. He shifted his head, preparing to capture her parted lips and finish what he started on the bed.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
The sound was muffled by the heavy oak door, but it cut through the heavy silence of the bedroom like a gunshot.
Jarrod froze. His mouth was exactly one inch from hers. His body went rigid, a flicker of pure, lethal annoyance flashing in his eyes before he registered the servant’s voice. The heat didn’t vanish; it was forcibly shoved back down, replaced by a surge of violent frustration.
“Colonel Romero?” Agnes, the young maid, called out from the hallway, her voice muffled and nervous. “General Romero is seated in the main dining room. He requests that you and Madam come down for breakfast immediately.”
The knock acted like a bucket of ice water.
Caroline did not waste the opportunity.
She ducked her head, slipping under his rigid arm, and practically sprinted away from the window.
She stopped near the closet, her hands trembling as she smoothed down her wrinkled camisole. She cleared her throat, forcing her voice to sound steady.
“Tell the General we will be right down, Agnes,” Caroline called back.
Jarrod turned around slowly. He looked down at his left hand, then glared at the heavy oak door. The muscles in his back coiled so tight they looked ready to snap. He slammed his left fist against the reinforced glass window, the impact vibrating through the floorboards.
He knew the General’s “request” was a direct military order — especially after the explosive confrontation they had in the foyer the night before. He could not ignore it.
Caroline watched him punch the window. A sharp, vindictive thrill of victory flared in her chest.
She stepped into the doorway of the massive walk-in closet and looked back over her shoulder.
“You heard the maid, Colonel,” Caroline said, using a perfectly polite, mocking tone. “Making the highest-ranking officer in the house wait is a severe breach of protocol. You should get dressed.”
Jarrod’s head snapped toward her. His face darkened into a mask of pure, lethal thunder.
He crossed the room in three massive strides.
Caroline instinctively took a step back, but Jarrod’s left hand shot out. His long fingers clamped around her jaw, holding her head firmly in place.
He didn’t kiss her. He just dragged his rough thumb hard across her bottom lip, still swollen from earlier.
