Chapter 112:
Alston, sensing the lethal threat, immediately straightened his posture and stepped slightly in front of Caroline, adopting his aggressive courtroom stance.
“Excuse me, sir,” Alston started, his voice firm. “Can I help you?”
Jarrod didn’t even look at Alston’s face. He treated the lawyer like a piece of garbage blocking his path.
His left arm shot out, not the injured right, still held carefully still against his side, and his massive hand clamped down around Caroline’s fragile wrist. The grip was iron, unbreakable.

Caroline gasped in pain. “Jarrod, you’re hurting me!”
Jarrod ignored her cry. He pulled her forward, his left arm reeling her in with terrifying, effortless strength.
Caroline stumbled on the stilettos and crashed into Jarrod’s chest. His left arm immediately wrapped around her waist, crushing her body flush against his, locking her in a physical cage of bone and muscle. His right shoulder remained motionless, braced against the strain.
He finally turned his head and looked at Alston.
Jarrod’s eyes were dead. It was the look of an apex predator warning a scavenger to back away from its kill. He did not speak a single word of explanation. He simply turned, dragging Caroline with him toward the shattered doorway, and vanished into the blazing light of the corridor beyond.
The silence in the parlor was deafening. Alston stared at the massive, terrifying man who had just violently dragged Caroline into his chest.
Alston’s legal brain kicked into overdrive. He saw the bruising grip on Caroline’s wrist. He saw her physical struggle against the man’s chest.
Alston took a step forward and pointed a sharp finger directly at Jarrod’s face.
“Release her immediately,” Alston demanded, his voice echoing with the absolute authority of a K Street lawyer. “What you are doing right now constitutes physical assault and false imprisonment. Let her go, or I will call security.”
Jarrod stopped breathing.
A low, dark, incredibly cruel laugh rumbled deep in Jarrod’s chest. The sound vibrated against Caroline’s cheek.
Jarrod didn’t loosen his grip. He tightened his left arm around Caroline’s waist, his right arm held motionless against his side, and pulled her so hard against him that she could feel the heavy buckle of his belt.
Jarrod slowly raised his chin and looked down at Alston with absolute, aristocratic disgust.
“Attorney Petersen, isn’t it?” Jarrod asked, his voice a slow, lethal drawl. “Before you attempt to lecture me on the law in my own house, you should verify your facts.”
Jarrod paused. His eyes burned with a sick, possessive triumph.
“The woman you are currently trying to flirt with in a dark corner,” Jarrod stated, enunciating every single syllable, “is my legal wife.”
The word “wife” hit the room like a physical shockwave.
Alston’s mouth fell open. All the blood drained from his face. He stared at Jarrod, then his eyes snapped down to Caroline.
“Caroline?” Alston stammered, his voice completely losing its legal edge. “Is he telling the truth?”
