Chapter 260:
Caroline took one step back. She raised her boot and kicked the heavy steel fire door with explosive force.
BANG!
The steel door slammed against the brick wall like a gunshot.
Rocco and his men whipped their heads around.
They saw a skinny girl in faded jeans and a ponytail standing in the doorway. She was holding a cheap leather jacket in one hand.
Rocco stared at her. He let out a loud, ugly bark of laughter.
“Look at this,” Rocco mocked, spitting on the asphalt. “A little nurse playing superhero. Get lost, bitch, before we cut you too.”
Beatrice stared at Caroline. Absolute shock washed over her face. The woman she had treated like garbage was the only person standing between her and a knife.
Caroline did not say a word.

She stepped out into the alley, slowly moving her hands behind her back, hiding the leather jacket. Her face was completely blank.
“Take your hands off the woman,” Caroline commanded. Her voice was flat, carrying zero emotion. “And step away from the dog.”
Rocco rolled his eyes and jerked his head toward the thug on his left.
“Break her jaw,” Rocco ordered casually.
The massive thug frowned. He clearly didn’t take her seriously, but a flicker of impatient annoyance crossed his face. “Get lost, little girl. This is none of your business,” he grunted, reaching out roughly to push her out of the way.
The thug weighed easily two hundred and fifty pounds. He lumbered toward Caroline, his heavy boots crunching on the broken glass in the alley.
He reached out with a massive, meaty hand, aiming directly for her throat to choke her out.
Caroline did not back away.
The second his fingers entered her strike zone, her eyes flashed with pure, lethal intent.
She dropped her center of gravity, ducking smoothly under his clumsy, sweeping grab.
In the same fluid motion, Caroline whipped her hands from behind her back and swung the heavy red leather jacket like a bullwhip. The heavy brass zipper slashed directly across the thug’s eyes.
“Argh!” the thug screamed, his hands flying up to cover his bleeding face.
He was blind for exactly one second. That was all Caroline needed.
She planted her left foot, twisting her hips to generate massive kinetic torque. Her right leg snapped up in a flawless, devastating high kick.
Her heavy boot connected flush with the side of the thug’s neck, striking the carotid sinus with pinpoint accuracy.
The massive impact sent a shockwave through his nervous system. The thug’s eyes rolled back into his head. He collapsed like a felled oak tree, hitting the asphalt with a sickening, heavy thud.
He was out cold.
The entire sequence took less than three seconds.
The alley fell dead silent. Rocco’s nasty smile vanished. Beatrice gasped, clutching her dog tighter.
Rocco let out a roar of absolute fury.
He dropped Beatrice, gripped his switchblade tight, and charged at Caroline, the remaining thug right behind him.
Caroline dropped the jacket.
Rocco thrust the knife straight at her stomach.
