Chapter 134:
Caroline swallowed the dry lump in her throat. She gave a stiff nod, desperate to escape the overwhelming, suffocating gravity of his physical presence and the jarring sight of the injury he so stubbornly ignored. She practically sprinted past him and ducked into the steamy bathroom, pulling the door shut behind her.
Caroline leaned her back against the closed bathroom door. She let out a long, trembling breath. The image of Jarrod’s wet, heavily muscled torso was burned into her retinas. Her cheeks felt like they were on fire.
She pushed herself off the door and walked over to the massive double vanity.
The bathroom was a temple of black marble and glass. Just as Jarrod had promised, a thick, pristine white bathrobe was folded neatly on the counter, the luxury hotel tag still attached to the collar.
Caroline quickly unzipped the heavy velvet gown. She let the expensive fabric pool on the floor. She grabbed a makeup wipe and began scrubbing the heavy, dramatic cosmetics off her face, desperate to feel like herself again.
She reached for the bathrobe, ready to step into the massive glass shower.
Then a cold, humiliating realization hit her like a brick wall.
She froze. She looked down at her body. She was wearing a highly structured, backless silicone bra and a matching thong—undergarments specifically designed for the gala dress.
If she took a shower, she had absolutely nothing clean to put on underneath the bathrobe. She could not sleep in the silicone bra, and she absolutely refused to walk around Jarrod’s penthouse completely naked beneath a single layer of terrycloth.

Her face burned with a fresh wave of intense embarrassment. She cursed Jarrod in her head. He had kidnapped her from the gala and dragged her here without letting her pack a single bag.
She stood in the bathroom for five agonizing minutes, debating her options. There was no way out. She had to ask him for clothes.
Caroline grabbed the white bathrobe and pulled it tightly around her body, tying the belt in a vicious double knot. She took a deep breath, walked to the door, and cracked it open.
Jarrod was sitting on the edge of the bed. He had put on a pair of dark gray sweatpants, but his chest was still bare. He was looking down at his phone, his thumb swiping across the screen.
“Jarrod,” Caroline called out, her voice barely above a whisper.
He looked up. His eyes immediately dropped to the V-neck of the bathrobe, then back up to her flushed face.
“What is it?” Jarrod asked, his voice calm.
Caroline bit her lower lip. She refused to make eye contact. “I don’t have any clothes. I don’t have anything to wear… underneath.”
Jarrod stared at her for a second. The realization clicked in his brain. A slow, incredibly wicked smile spread across his face. He put his phone down on the nightstand and stood up.
“That is a logistical failure on my part,” Jarrod said, his voice dripping with dark amusement.
He walked slowly toward the bathroom. Caroline instinctively tried to close the door a few inches, but he reached out and planted his large left hand flat against the wood, stopping her.
